Re: What Colour Is Almond?
SKB could you give us a kind of blow by blow account of how you go about setting up the cage? Do you start with the substrate and wheel and build from there? Do you have the items and arrange them or look at it and decide what other items you need?

Re: What Colour Is Almond?
Thank you Charlie Dunn, Serendipity and RiaP
Serendipity, this was a post I did on Pumpkin thread in 2017 about how I set this cage up. All About My Pumpkin . It’s pretty much exactly the same as what I do now for Humbug, Peppermint and Almond. Although the only slight difference is now I do use a fair amount of seed sprays those get added after the chew toys.
I usually have an idea in my head of how I want things to go but it a lot of trial and error really - swapping things around working out what works best.

Re: What Colour Is Almond?
I honestly have no idea! Lol
However, Almond is a GORGEOUS hamster.
Very lucky to have you as an owner
And I love your setup--- a lot of places to dart and hide if scared.

The exhibition standards are here but remember these are for the 'perfect' hamster and no hamster is perfect in every area!
If she does have 'yellow' patches she could be a Golden tort so check all the areas for undercoat and see if any have yellow roots with other areas showing grey roots. The shorter the hair area the less undercoat you see which is why faces often look paler

As bonding is coming on well with Almond I have managed to check her undercoat and it’s Ivory yellow. Can’t see any grey areas. So I take it this means she a yellow?

Re: What Colour Is Almond?
It certainly doesn't look like a Golden undercoat! Yellows are cheeky hamsters you know!

Re: What Colour Is Almond?
I love cheeky mischievous Syrians - so as yellows are naturally cheeky that’s perfect! And I have definitely started to notice her cheeky side now that she getting more familiar with me and she getting less timid. Thanks you for all your help in identifying her colour greatly appreciate it.
