Default Where can I find this tyoe of hamster?

I live in Southern California and I've been on the lookout for a short haired hamster that looks like the pic attaches, in gold/tan color:

These seem fairly common, right? However, I've been to almost very and pet store in the city (yes, I've visited most of them!), and none of them look like this!

The ones in the store look different. First of all, none of the stores have a golden colored one. Second, they all look similar to each other but different from the one in the pic above. They seem like they all have a longer snout and nose.

My question is... Do they all look similar because they're all bred from a few hamsters? Are there "seasons" when certain "looks" are more common due to breeding habits? If i wait and go back to the store in a month, would the hamsters there look different? I tried both commercial and mom and pop shops and they all look differet...

Also, if anyone lives in Socal, do you know where I can find one of these hammies in the first pic?

That picture makes the hamster look different from how it would look when standing on all 4 legs. They lengthen when they are down and the face also looks different in side view from front on like that. Some hamsters do have long and narrow heads. That hamster is a Black eyed cream banded. It sounds like you are looking for a Golden banded and patterned hamsters are all quite unique and different. No two are the same.
Both Golden and cream are very common colours to find. Cream darkens as the hamster gets older. The face of a golden is quite different from the cream as the eyes show up less vividly on the face. Wait till you take a liking to one when you see it and try and not expect an exact copy of one you see in a pic as they are all unique!

It sounds like you are trying to find a very specific hamster. All hamsters are different and will look different based on species and color/patterning. The species you are wanting is a short haired Syrian (versus a long haired Syrian), the other species are dwarfs and are much smaller. You can always call pet stores to see if they have that specific patterning so you don't waste your time going a bunch of places. You could also look into rescues or shelters to see if they have any small animals available. Female hamsters go into heat about every 4 days and their gestation period is fairly short, about 20-30 days and they can mate immediately after they give birth which isn't great but possible. What do you mean by different though? As in the colors, patterns, size, or something else? Hamsters in their respective species should look fairly similar to one another. Also Syrians generally need larger items (12" wheel for example) that will cost more and more space, just another thing to consider because I wasn't fully aware of that before getting mine.

Have you ever considered getting two hamsters, in separate habitats of course? Maybe adopt a hamster from a rescue.
One that appeals because of his personality, or comes to you, or has been in a rescue for a long time. It is very very rewarding to give an unwanted hamster a good home and watch them happily hamstering about.
That would take the pressure off of finding your dream hamster and you may well come across one when you aren't looking.
I do understand you though because my fourth hamster is my guilty secret. I cherish all my hamsters equally and don't have favourites. One i bought as a baby and two are adopted. They are all so lovable in their own different ways and three would have been enough really but i saw a hamster on a forum and instantly thought that i would love to have that particular hamster like you would like the hamster in the first picture. One day i went to a petshop for something else and there she was. The hamster lookalike from the hamster on the forum. I took her home and she settled in so quickly, like she's meant to be here.

They sell these at pet shops. I would always recommend you to look for on at your local shelter first

I would say never go by looks with a ham. 4 hamsters I've rescued and each time I went for a Syrian kinda like the one you're looking for. I'm yet to actually see one in the flesh and I assume you'll have more luck.
