Re: Pickle's Thread
No he stayed in the Mickey 2XL. I didn't want to upheave him again. He seems to be using the hammock now and is quite settled.
The Plaza was infested - ugh! Moths, larvae and lots of larvae webbing. I put it out in the garden ready to empty everything out and clean it and that night it snowed - and then snowed for a month. It disappeared under the snow! So left it there. Anything would have been well and truly frozen and dead after that! Had rather a lot on in Jan and Feb - all family stuff - and it ended up going to the bottom of the list of priorities. Bit of a disaster really as the bars went rusty. So I salvaged the base and some plastic parts for spares for my other plaza and disinfected them all.

Re: Pickle's Thread
Weighed Pickle tonight and he is 270g! I always knew he’d grown large but haven’t weighed him for ages. He has a small pea sized lump on one of his scent glands so have taken a photo and emailed it to the vet.
Here he is tonight (this side is the good scent gland although there’s not much to see on the other side really).

Re: Pickle's Thread
A few more of Pickle on the sofa tonight. Climbing. Trying to dig a tunnel in the donut bed. And emerging looking ruffled.

Re: Pickle's Thread
What a chunk!
Had to laugh at him digging in the donut bed. Lovely photos.
I got one of those donut beds but our hamsters ignored it so i gave it to a mouse as a present who loves it.

Re: Pickle's Thread
Thanks Ria. Surprisingly he doesn't feel chunky - he feels like bones and fur! A lot of fur and he's just big

Re: Pickle's Thread
Pickle went to the vets today and is going back on Thursday to have his lump removed. Vet thought the same as me - not infection, some kind of lump either cancerous or benign but best to remove it.
He wasn't impressed at being put in the pet carrier in the afternoon. Most hamsters have gone in the little house. Pickle upended the little house (twice) and was trying to get out.
Until we were in the car and he then burrowed down to the bottom and slept for the rest of the journey.
It felt a bit strange handing him over at the door and not being there when he was being examined. But vet phoned me in the car before taking him to be handed and discussed everything so I mentioned he can be a bit nervous.
He was like a limp rag when we got back and I got him out of the pet carrier. Not sure if he was just very sleepy or in shell shock. Maybe a bit of both. But back in his cage and sleeping again now.

Sorry to hear that it is a lump. Hoping everything goes well for you and Pickle on Thursday.

Re: Pickle's Thread
Thank you Luna. I felt the lump myself quite clearly and it was almost a waste of a long journey to have the vet confirm it was a lump that needed removing! It's pea sized but delay can mean they can grow quite rapidly sometimes (Moo's lump did). But she may have found something I didn't know about so it did need a consultation first. Just means we have another 2.5 hour round trip twice on Thursday! To drop him off in the morning and then go back later in the day to collect him.
She said he was lovely and healthy and fit and fine for surgery.
