Re: Moo's thread
That’s strange, I wonder what’s happened with his teeth, are his top teeth ok, they might get a bit long without any top ones to grind against.
In theory they can eat just fine with their molars so he may still be able to eat some harder foods, I’m sure all the soft foods will be doing him a lot of good though.
Shame abut the porridge, I’m a bit like that with the smell of hot milk too!

Re: Moo's thread
I didn’t manage to see if he had any top ones. I will need to check again some time. He can definitely open his mouth as gave me a nip when I was trying to look!

Re: Moo's thread
He he. It wasn't a hard nip so could have been a gummy nip I guess but it did feel like a nip. He has probably got back teeth. I remember Newt lost his top teeth about this age. It must be a very recent thing as he was often gnawing away at something loudly - especially just before feeding time.

Re: Moo's thread
My Tarak is now 2 years old and has porridge made by soaking oats in some kettle boiled water. He also enjoys carrots, celery, lettuce, apple, peppers and cabbage, all in teeny amounts.
Would soaking oats like that make you feel nauseous I wonder?

Re: Moo's thread
That might be better thank you Flower fairy. They're not actually heated then. Although I was thinking of getting some readybrek. Smell of that doesn't bother me at all.

Re: Moo's thread
Why can't you simply get your OH to give Moo some of his porridge? Hamsters eat it warm or cold. Henry always eats some while warm but then comes out a couple of times during the day to finish it off.
We have another porridge eater now. Paddy likes it too.

Re: Moo's thread
Nice idea! I could try but he has his breakfast before I get up so might forget. Or just say he hasn’t got time blah blah. I’d rather feed him myself I think. Can we drop the porridge now please . Plenty of alternative soft foods. Rice porridge is good too and don’t have a problem with that.

Re: Moo's thread
Just tell yourself he might not like porridge anyway, I did try Zak with some once & he looked at me like I’d put a stink bomb in his cage

Re: Moo's thread
Ha ha! Yes Newt was a bit like that. Considering he hoovered everything else in sight. I'll soon have him fattened up a bit (again!)
