Cage set up ready for new arrival
Our cage etc arrived today and is now all set up ready to go apart from the water bottle - I forgot to order that bit 😀.
Does it look ok?

Re: Cage set up ready for new arrival
It looks lovely! Your hammy will be happy in there. My personal tweaks would be to have the seesaw on the substrate possibly - or further back on the shelf - so no risk of him toppling over off the shelf when he comes out of it. And moving the carrot chew a little bit further along from the edge of the shelf for the same reason.
I didn't realise you had the Barney when you were talking about houses in the cage on the other thread. The Barney house is ideal for a syrian. I would also possibly put the little house on the shelf in one corner - they sometimes like to have something to hide in when on the shelf.

Re: Cage set up ready for new arrival
That is a lovely looking set up. I also have a barney cage. The only additional point I would make is to keep an eye on how your new hammy manages that slope up to the shelf. It could be a little steep. If not now then when older. I eventually lowered my shelf to just above the base and when my boy was over 2 years old, I began putting more substrate under the slope to reduce the tilt even more.
Hope the new arrival settles well!

Re: Cage set up ready for new arrival
That does look nice, I'm sure your new ham is going to love that.
I would add more substrate though, fill the base if you can. Also I wouldn't use the open rung ladder climbing thing, those aren't all that safe or easy for hams to use, a plain bendy bridge would be better.

Re: Cage set up ready for new arrival
I was just wondering what the little tree is called? It looks very cute and maybe I’ll get it if there is any in my area!

Re: Cage set up ready for new arrival
This cage looks awesome! Definitely goals for my boy, Allen. Where did you get the tube teeter totter on the level? My hammy would go nuts over that! I like your wheel, and that rung ladder should be fine for you hamster as long as he's a young one. My hamster likes to tumble around and jump into his substrate so he would definitely enjoy a cage like this. I agree with cypher that the substrate could be deeper unless your hammy isn't fond of tunnelling. I had a hamster who hated to tunnel and just moved stuf inn his cage to make giant caves lol

Re: Cage set up ready for new arrival
Sascha04 - the tree is from pets at home - no idea what it is called though sorry
RavenMouse - the seesaw is also pets at home too!
We have added more substrate - up to the rungs now and also put loads of ton tissue for bedding, litter tray arrived yesterday so that is now in there but will move to wherever he prefers it, also picked the water bottle up yesterday too.
picking him up at 10am tomorrow - my daughter just can't wait now!
