Taming tips/advice needed
Luciano has been with me for over two weeks now. Most of that time he's doing alright. He gather food and nesting material, drinks well. But...he doesn't really show interest in people. He eats certains treats from the hand and react's to his nickname. He also just runs in his wheel, stopping to take short brakes but...doesn't really do anything else. I even had to remove the large silent spinner because the way he ran on that thing....the wheel was everything but silent! Now he has a trixie wheel. His cage is the Savic Plaza btw.
Aquaitance who's into some paranomal stuff said he's traumatized by something. The shop I got him from doesn't have much personnel walking around, so maybe some people bothered him? Or they didn't interact with him much.
Seems like a little lad that needs to come out of his shell, I guess. How can I help him adjust/make him more sociable without intruding to much on him? I don't wanna just grab him by force or anything.
He's also really tiny. I know he's male but he hardly seems much bigger then my dwarves. He's fairly young, about 4 months, will he grow?

Re: Taming tips/advice needed
It's not easy to tell from photos but he does look quite tiny, possibly the runt of a litter maybe, just guessing really.
I think two weeks is still very early days, he probably needs more time to settle & get used to things, I would spend lots of time talking to him & just go at his pace.
It's always possible he's had some kind of stress in his past but most likely just a lack of human interaction.

Re: Taming tips/advice needed
I hope he will overcome it. I have to admit, most hamsters I have had were either already tame or warmed up really quick, so I have to keep that in mind and just go at his pace then.
Would this be fine? Just feeding him tiny bits of his favorite treat and then gently praising him? Will he then maybe come around? All the while he's in his cage and awake, I don't want to wake him up for it.

Re: Taming tips/advice needed
Baron, as Cypher has said the main thing is time, he is really tiny too, Ghost was tiny when I got him he was 6-8 weeks old but has grown up nicely, he took ages to tame he would run away from me all the time and chatter his teeth at me if I tried going near him but perseverance paid off and he is now a total softie. So give him time talk quietly in a Reassuring tone and be gentle do it all at his pace.

That sounds fine to me, I'm sure he'll get more used to you with a little time, I think you just have to be both patient & persistent but not try to rush things.

Re: Taming tips/advice needed
He seems to be changing. Its like something 'unlocked' inside of him. He took notice of the females/rats smells, explored more of his cage. His wheel running has become more relaxed. (Still looking for a better wheel)
But the most amazing thing was right when I wanted to go to bed. It was dark, I walked by his cage saying: "Bye Luci." He stopped walking in his wheel. He 'followed' me to the other end of the cage and....came to the door. I thought: "Oh, do you want some pear?" Nope, he climbed atop my hand, on my arm. Then went back in the cage and just ran on his wheel.
They continue to amaze me. But I will just keep doing the feeding-thing inside the cage with talking about stupid things.

Re: Taming tips/advice needed
That's great! The ones that take longer to come round do seem to have a sudden change of heart quite often.

Re: Taming tips/advice needed
I am really curious about tonight. I am a bit of a nightowl so there's enough time.
The place he came from had a...heavy energy. I wonder if he just got stuck in the same routine over and over again each night.
