Maestro is here!
I am thrilled to say that I have a new baby boy. Today I went to Tuftyfluffs and came away with a beautiful SH cinnamon Syrian pup. He is 6 and a half weeks old. I left him in his carrier as he was fast asleep when we arrived home. Eventually I coaxed him awake although he was reluctant to wake up. I took a couple of quick photos before he went into his cage. I am using my Hamster Heaven which may be a little small eventually but the big front door helps with taming. Also he was still with some brothers so he has a lot to get used to. He has been exploring enthusiastically, perhaps a bit too much for the nerves of an anxious hamster Mum! No wheel yet until he is a bit older. At least during playpen time will be ok for now.
To explain his name- Maestro...
Of course there is the M-O construction like Mocho. But then there was last summer. In the last weeks of Mocho's life ThinLizzy's brilliant idea launched the Electric Hammy Orchestra. As those of you who took part know, Mocho became Sir Mocho, the conductor of the EHO. So in a moment of inspiration, the name Maestro came to me in tribute to Sir Mocho and the EHO.

Now to introduce Maestro...
At first just a little nose peeping out reluctantly and a bit sleepy.
Then he emerges from his buried position in the carrier..

Re: Maestro is here!
I have such a big smile on my face reading this! I'm so pleased for you Coco, what a gorgeous boy, I love that cute little nose & his colouring is beautiful. Love his name too.
He sounds quite a character already & I'm looking forward to hearing more about him as he settles in.

Re: Maestro is here!
Thank you cypher, Serendipity ands Rads. His colour is really rich. The family reminds me of the venerable Rupert and his cinnamon sons with souffle. I saw his parents in their cages. Newtie's brothers are similar of course.
Silly boy has only visited his 2 room house once. He loves the salt pig and had a good dig in the sand inside and had a snooze inside. Now he has buried himself in the fitch right in front of it. I have checked to try and ensure it does not topple onto him. Of all the places to pick...but he must feel safe this first night in a new home.

Congrats on Maestro - he is so handsome and he has found an amazing home with you. Love his name and the origins of it. Sounds like he is settling in well to his new cage. I am so looking forward to hearing and seeing more of Maestro.

Re: Maestro is here!
Thank you so much everyone for your welcome for Maestro. I have seen quite a lot of him in the evenings. He comes out and does not rush away to hide if I approach to talk to him. He has now settled into his house for sleeping but is ignoring the strips of toilet tissue outside.
Without a wheel, as he is so young, he has been exploring his bars. Last night I had my hand inside and up under his rear end to lower him down. When that didn't work I hung up a treat stick earlier than planned. That did distract him. Another triumph last night was his introduction to veg. A tiny flower head of purple broccoli was too much of a temptation. After a couple of sniffs at my hand and hesitation, he just could not resist taking it. Then sat eating it rather than dash away with his prize.
