How do you brush a long haired hamster cuz Yamagi keeps getting bedding stuck in his fur.

Re: Grooming
If you can try a small enough flea comb, that would probably be the most thorough solution

Re: Grooming
I use a toothbrush for Quigley. I have to admit though, that with big tangles, I cut them out with nail scissors (which he does not notice) because I don’t want to upset him by yanking them out with a comb or brush.

Re: Grooming
A tooth brush (manual one. Not battery or electric) or some pet shops have a small pet brush/groomer that goes on your finger.

Re: Grooming
You have a LH boy don’t you? Carefresh does get very tangled. I found that back2nature paper pellets (sold in pets at home) are the best for avoiding tangles in long hair. The downside is that it isn’t good for burrowing. Some people use wood based cat litter for long haired hams, but I think that would be quite hard and uncomfortable.
EDIT: Forgot you are in the US. Not sure if back2nature is sold there. An alternative would be aubiose. That is better for burrowing in anyway but only comes in massive packs shich I don’t have room for in my house.

Re: Grooming
Paper substrates may get tangled but they're pretty easy to get out by hand, just stay on top of grooming and don't worry too much about changing substrate since it isn't necessary.Any pellet would be inappropriate for substrate in the entire cage,as it doesn't allow burrowing(a completely natural behavior that is quite enriching and important, however Carefresh and paper style substrate allow burrowing just fine).
Kaytee Clean and Cozy(plain white unscented)could work better though. It's definitely more cost effective than Carefresh if nothing else, and is generally a lot less dusty!
