Re: Introducing kenneth!
Had a lovely play session with Kenny this evening! Got him out into his taming box and he ignores the treats and came to my hands! Let him run around on my arms and chest for a while and he seemed fairly calm. No bitinf! When he did start to get a little frantic after a while I put him back in his cage and he's now strutting about looking pleased with himself. I think we're going to get along just fine. He seems like he's open to becoming tamed. So excited!

Re: Introducing kenneth!
I hope so. He's a little shy but has grown in confidence so much since he arrived on Friday.

Re: Introducing kenneth!
I'm so happy that he is taming so quickly and gaining lots of confidence, too. I know that must make you beam from ear to ear. Kenny sure is a cutie, and I absolutely LOVE his latest picture. Him poking his head out of his Sputnik is so adorable.

Re: Introducing kenneth!
Little cutie pie isn't he? Always had females in the past so this is super fun having a boy. He doesn't run/zoom about as fast as my girls did, is that just his personality or are the males sometimes calmer?

Re: Introducing kenneth!
Males are generally calmer, but it doesn't always work that way. We had one boy who was so active he was up all day as well as all night wanting to come out and play - so much so that when we were at home during the day he bar chewed until we let him into his playpen. And the breeder I got my current boy from showed me one of her girls who literally just sat there on her hand lol.

Re: Introducing kenneth!
Personality is definitely what impacts how handleable a hamster is,not male or female stereotypes Even coming from a breeder isn't a guarantee,so it's incredibly difficult if not borderline impossible to predict hamster personalities.
There are even stereotypes of Syrians being the most "tame" species but that's not accurate either. There have been many cases of dwarf hamsters of all species being quite tame, and many cases of Syrians being the opposite of the stereotypes!

Re: Introducing kenneth!
He does seem to like you already. Hamsters all differ in how energetic they are, but my males have always been less energetic than my girls.
It is hard to judge unless you have has both males and females.
He is taming nicely too. Hope he continues.
