First Syrian!
I've just got my first Syrian, he's a rescue/rehome, I've always had dwarf hamsters before, is there anything I need to know for Syrians?
He's got a 7inch wheel as he's still a baby but when he gets bigger I already have a 12 inch for him and once he's settled and ice got it fixed I'm going to move him into a 3 foot long cage with lots of space for digging!

Re: First Syrian!
Hi Robolover,
Syrians need lots of enrichment so lots of things to play with, chew etc.
Pip has tubes, tunnels, ramps logs all sorts but they always have favourites. She likes her ball some persons on here do not like hamster balls but I have never had a prob with them, I always make sure they are clear plastic and at least 10" in diameter
I give Pip lots of fresh veggies, salad stuff she also likes cheese, chicken, egg white or scrambled egg.
Oh they can be great escapologists too.
Looking forward to seeing your Syrian.
Pip says Hi and waves a paw..

Re: First Syrian!
Do you think a 7.5inch wheel will be big enough for a small 3 month old Syrian?
He's too small at the moment to move the 12 inch

Re: First Syrian!
Congrats on your new hamster! And it is wonderful to hear that you got a rescue ham. I am sure he will be very loved does he have a name? When do we get to see pictures?
Re the wheel, how small is small? Do you know how much he weighs? My Mushu was already cramped in a 7.5 inch wheel when he was 8-10 weeks old and under 100g. He took to his 12 inch silent runner immediately! So, I do not think he really could be too small for a 12 inch wheel. You'll probably find he has no trouble running on it and it's good to have room for growth.

Re: First Syrian!
Congratulations on your new ham! I'm the opposite - I've always owned Syrians really, this is my first proper time of owning a Dwarf. Can't wait to see some pictures

Re: First Syrian!
Congrats on your first Syrian! I think they are my favorite species (but don't tell my dwarf hamster that!) I started mine out on an 8" wheel before moving on to a 12" wheel as she grew. I look forward to hearing more about your new hammy!

I was planning on getting a hybrid or ww next but he was offered to me and I couldn't resist!
He's really friendly, I got him Saturday night, did his first taming session today and he was climbing all over my hands and up my arm! My robo never got that friendly in the almost 2 years I had her!
