Re: Newt's thread
Newt's new set up is looking so good Serendipity, I love the video where he comes right up to the camera, he's a little beauty!

Re: Newt's thread
No problem! I would have thought a couple of nuts and bolts would be very secure! And then you wouldn't need a shelf to rest one end on. I was a bit worried about Newt jumping off that shelf too as his house roof protrudes under it, so I've got hemp mat on the house roof and beyond that is just substrate. I think it's fine for them to jump off a shelf as long as they can't fall too far or land on anything hard or with a hard edge
I like having things on the roof - it does two things - adds a roof run and also gives them shelter underneath - it looks much more shady in Newt's house area now

Re: Newt's thread
Thank you. It isn't much of a change to his set up, but as the substrate flattened after I'd lowered it a bit, the ramp was too high! So I extended it a bit. I also added the extra sputnik which looks a bit weird but it does give good roof cover so it's less exposed in that half of the cage and I think he likes that. He didn't want to come out last night, and seemed to be enjoying exploring still - either that or he was a bit worried after the bit of a clean out. Unfortunately I had to remove quite a bit of his nest and substrate in his house as it was soaked - hopefully that won't happen again now I've put the potty in the right place. I managed to save a bit of his nest and some of his hoard, including a bit of j cloth bedding that came with him He seems quite contented though.

Re: Newt's thread
Newt's cage layout looks lovely! Such a sweet video of Newt exploring his cage - it was so cute when he came over to the cage door/camera!

Re: Newt's thread
Thank you SKB - yes he was rather sweet doing that. I had to put the camera down and lift him out and pop him in the playpen
Last night he didn't want to come out again and went and sat under his cork log so I just talked to him for a bit and eventually he came to the cage door and then had a crazy hour out of the cage Making up for missing a night! I think he was a bit reluctant to leave the cage in case it got messed with again! But his urge to come out and play got the better of him. He runs on both the wheel and saucer in the playpen and stops and looks up at you now and then. He even had a bit of a run in the savic ball. I don't use the ball very often or for very long but he seemed full of energy last night and has got the hang of it.
