No problem Dreamtree - I was only teasing, it's an easy mix-up I bet you don't resist Cypher - lol. I would get one - I just don't actually need a cage right now! When I was thinking of the pair of robos earlier this year I was thinking they could have the Barney and I could get a Plaza for the Syrian I was waiting for from Souffle's litter. But then I got all muddled! It wasn't long since Charlie had passed and then I thought - I think Robos would be better in a tank style. In the end the time flew and I set up the Barney for Newtie. As it's the only cage he's been in (since leaving his breeder cage) he took to the two small side doors straight away.

I needed to Tweak Newt's cage a bit and waited till he had a bit of a spot clean tonight. After the last spot clean a few things were a bit high, so lowered the back shelf slightly, added an extra bendy ramp so he could reach it properly and added the Savic Tube to his sputnik - which meant moving the sputnik slightly to the right leaving a bit of an open space, so I put the second sputnik in as well for some overhead cover.

Last time I spot cleaned I put a potty inside his house. He's been using it to hoard food and peeing in the other corner of the house - lol! So it was a bit stinky - and he'd pushed a load of stinky substrate out of the house door as well. So cleaned the potty and moved it to the side where he's peeing and put his hoard back.

He had a little explore and seems to approve. I've hidden lots of treats in various places to make up for the upheaval And added some bits of Finacard here and there for a bit of interest.

He can get into the new sputnik from the shelf and bendy bridge. And into the old sputnik through the savic tube, from the shelf, and onto the shelf by the double bendy bridge ramp.

Love Newt’s set up! I might try doing something similar with Quigley’s savic rat tube... Would you mind explaining how you have attached it to the top of the cage? I contemplated attaching it to the roof of Quigley’s cage before, but could not come up with a way to fasten it there satisfactorily securely.

Thanks April The tube is sort of wedged between the shelf and the top of the cage and also held in place by one of the tabs being clipped through the top bars.

Here is Newtie exploring the cage

He does look sweet on the vid doesn't he As if butter wouldn't melt lol. He chewed a big hole in the carpet the night before and then pouched some of the carpet aargh! I had to try and get him to spit it out again. Partly why I did the spot clean last night to check his house in case any bits of carpet got there. I don't think it would have done any harm really though. We had a late night after being out at a party, so I let him out about 2am when we got back (I don't drink so I knew what I was doing!). Clearly 2am is foraging time!

Now I've put the green sputnik top in the cage he isn't able to push it around - so I've put a couple of other toys in the playpen he can push around instead lol. At least the sputnik will smell familiar in his cage, as does the savic tube which he also had in the playpen.

Love when his little face comes up to the camera! Wouldn’t believe him capable of such mischief!

Thanks for elaborating on hiw you attached the tube to the cage roof. I am going to see if I can attach both of Quigley’s savic rat tubes to the top of his cage with bolts and washers through the ventilation holes in the top of the tubes, so that he can have a walkway between his two platforms.

That sounds like an idea! I've always found it needs a shelf to rest on at one end, even when I've used the tabs (and sisal string to secure one end to the roof). In this case the shelf was just the right height that the tube is wedged between it and the roof - it basically stays up on its own but I clipped one tab to the roof just to be sure.

Hmm in that case my plan of using washers may not work as I have the shelves too low to wedge a tube in between the shelf and roof (Quigley likes to jump from the shelves and I worry about him hurting himself if they were any higher). But, we shall see. Maybe the washers will work as I was going to use quite a few!

P.S. Sorry for hijacking Newt’s thread with my plans!
