Re: All about Beatrix
I’m sure Beatrix is going to love the new cage - I am certainly excited to see it set up. Never had a female hamster myself, so I don’t have much experience of them being in heat (although I did look after a few of my friend’s females). But, I bet she isn’t mad at you! I actually find it kinda funny... Sorry Beatrix

Re: All about Beatrix
Shame she doesn't like the cage, the Kevin is probably my favourite of all the cages that kind of size I have, it's perfect for dwarf hams & all mine that have lived in it love it but it is maybe a bit small for a syrian.

Re: All about Beatrix
Catching up with Beatrix's thread.
her photos are lovely. I'm sorry he doesn't like her cage. I don't know how the kevin cage is tbh. I also prefer the tank style cages. They are very good looking, they allow you to have a lot of substrate without having to deal with messes, and overall I'm really happy with mine. I would like to see your set up once you move Beatrix!

Re: All about Beatrix
I got the huge new cage all set up in the hamster room. It's so big!
It's 118.5 x 78.5 x 61 cm (L x W x H), and I think Beatrix loves it! I put a bunch of new bedding in it, plus all of her bedding from her Kevin 82, and all the same toys. I also added a platform I made her (that isn't there in the photo yet). I have some new stuff to add, but I wanted to wait until she got settled in. Because I have it on a table and not on the floor, it was more difficult to set up, but I'm pretty happy with it, and I think that Beatrix will love it too. She came out of sleeping to check out all the noise while I was building it, and I was able to very easily pick her up and put her in the new cage! I've only ever picked her up when trying to catch her from escaping before, so that was kind of fun! I refilled her food bowl and her water, and now she's running around exploring with two Mazuri blocks in her pouches. It looks so cute!

Re: All about Beatrix
Beatrix seems very happy in her new cage! I have added a few new things I picked up for her. A platform I made, with her food dish on it, since she seems to like different levels, a willow tunnel, which she likes to chew on, and she had already made a few burrows in the deeper part of the substrate. The Carolina Bucket Wheel is working out really nicely. Beatrix seems so big to me compared to my other hams, and I like how wide it is. She also has some more places to sleep or hide or play. I'm so glad she has more space now.
All the hamsters got walnuts tonight, slightly cracked open, so they can smell the yummy inside. They all loved them!

The new cage looks great, I'm not surprised she's happy in there!

Re: All about Beatrix
It is so cute to spy on Beatrix and see how she's settling in to her home. I can see the paths she makes, because 1) burrows, and 2) she's left a sort of traffic tower of bedding where she obvious circles around one way to go to the sand bath and the other way to go to her water. I wanted to recommend the water bottle I'm using for her, btw. It says it's for dwarf hamsters, but it's working great for her. I have it elevated on a pile of rocks. I love that I don't have to worry about it fitting in a cage no matter how high the walls are. And it's short enough that even if/when she climbs it, it's still too short for her to escape, and the ceramic base makes it sturdy enough so that it doesn't tip over. I have one in Cress's cage, and the hole at the base makes a perfect hide for her, being a Robo. I might get one for Anya and Emoji, too, I love it so much. I refill their water daily, so I don't need a huge bottle, and this is the perfect size, and it's easily adjustable.
Beatrix has been peeing in her wheel again, which she didn't used to do. She was only going in her sand bath. I've just cleaned the sand baths today, so hopefully a clean potty will remedy that. Luckily the Carolina Storm Bucket Wheel is easy to clean. I know the Silent Runner is the "best" wheel, and I have one for Anya and love it, but the Carolina wheel is amazing, too, and I love how adjustable it is and smooth, and pretty silent (though that isn't a concern for me), and how deep it is. Perfect for Beatrix.
Ok, that's probably enough product placement, lol. Tonight I plan to treat Beatrix and Anya to blueberries! I'm excited to see what she thinks. She hasn't been taking food directly from me in a few days, but wants me to set it down first. I'm sure all this changing cages has been a bit stressful for her. She seems fine, but I'd be surprised if she didn't require some settling in.
