Young female syrian hamster
Hi,
I have a question, I got young female syrian hamster. She is my first hamster and I'm wondering if it's normal or not, she is all the time trying to escape from her cage. She has a big case toys, chew toys and tubes. Lots of things to do. She is also half tamed I would say, since she does come to your hand when she is in her cage, I have a feeling that only because she wants to escape, but when I take her on the floor she seems a bit scared. I have had her only for one and half weeks.
Mainly I would like to know why she becomes fanatic when she wants to escape fron the cage? She keeps jumping on the walls and trying to find all the possible ways to escape
And how should I try to tame her also on the floor? Should I try the bath tub way? Let her run on me in the tub?
I would really appreciate help as a new hamster owner

Re: Young female syrian hamster
She's a fairly new ham having been with you for only a week and a half. To me it sounds like normal behavior for a new hamster, especially a young one as youngsters tend to be very high energy. How often have you taken her out? She, being so young and high energy, will likely need more time out of her cage. The bath tub method is a good method to use and she'll appreciate the time out of her cage. all in all it sounds like a case of not being used to her home yet, mixed with being a high energy little one. Good luck with her, best wishes

Re: Young female syrian hamster
She should be alright to be taken out now, a week and a half of settling in is plenty good, plus she seems very anxious to get out. Just make sure you don't take her out when she's going insane, this encourages her poor behavior of jumping and trying to escape. Instead, wait until she sits quietly playing, this way she learns calm and peaceful=time out to play
