Re: Blacky's Thread - The Black Spanish Syrian Hamster
The first two flower mixes are fine Hamsterita, I think Blacky might enjoy those.
If they are strongly aromatic then only use a tiny bit, lavender, rose & chammomile can be quite strong smelling but are still fine if you don't overdo it.
I'm really not sure about all the ingredients in the hay mix tbh.
You may be able to get a different hay with just flowers in it, JR farms among others do hay with just dandelion or marigold or something like that, or just plain hay.
Not really sure about the last one either, I would imagine it would be ok but can't really say for sure one way or the other, sorry.
ETA I just had a look at that site & there are quite a few nice things you could get individually & make your own enrichment mix if you wanted to, Google translate is being a bit slow this morning so I didn't check everything but here's some that would be safe to try.
alcachofa de jerusalén hierba de tupinambo
hierbas
I've only used fresh hawthorn leaves with mine & they weren't too impressed but you never know!
Pradera encantada
This one sounds quite nice.
Equinácea
Tupinambo

I think I saw dandelion root there too.

Can be a bit sharp like hay so best to go through it & pick out anything that feels sharp.

Re: Blacky's Thread - The Black Spanish Syrian Hamster
Thanks Amity and Cypher. I'll stick to the ribero flowers then. If they are safe, and they are cheap, it's a good way to know if he's going to be interested in them without expending too much money.
I don't want to use the hay as food, he liked to use it as nesting material and he liked to ...play? with it (he moved it from one place to the other and he blocked things with it and build little structures). There's no Carefresh Crinkles were I live, neither a way to get them that I know of. I like the sound of safe dried folliage... but I don't know what exactly that is So I'll follow cyphers advice and I'll stick to a regular hay. Which one do you think it would be best?
heno con diente de león
heno pétalos de rosas witte molen
Regular hay with dandelion or regular hay with rose petals? I think that most hamsters prefer dandelion, but I read that dandelion is a medicinal plant and it's no good to give them too much. Also, I don't like hay's smell, so maybe the one with rose petals would smell a little bit better. So, what do you think?
And the barley straw is a pass then.
cypher thank you for taking the time to take a look at the website. This order is going to be expensive as it is, so I'll probably won't order individually items to make my own mix, but thank you for the tips. I specially find very interesting the "pradera encantada" (enchanted meadow ) mix, you're right, it sounds quite nice, I put it on my wish list for the next time.
Lizzy you're going to kill me,but I still don't know what video are you talking about. I think that I didn't post new videos of Blacky. Maybe are you talking about Nero's video? Does it show a cream hamster? Or are you talking about my instagram stories?
Yes BP, I'm glad I realised that this website have most of the items that I wanted, but I wanted the rainbow bridge that cypher has in his avatar and they don't have it. I can't find it anywhere... I have to keep looking for it at an affordable price

Re: Blacky's Thread - The Black Spanish Syrian Hamster
There isn't usually much of the flowers or other plants in those hay mixes so if you're going to be giving flowers anyway I would go for the dandelion one, they rarely eat that much of it (the hay or the dandelions!) but it will still be something nice that's a bit different.

Re: Blacky's Thread - The Black Spanish Syrian Hamster
Flowers, leaves, that sort of thing Just go through various safe plant lists when you're looking through some, but also link them here if in doubt.Once again I'd still not use anything with lavender in it,but there are tons of other perfectly safe options like rose, dandelion, maybe scatter a little wood bark in the substrate if you want(Burgess make a hay/bark mix with birch which could be fun if you can find it or you could just peel off the bark from some inexpensive hamster-safe willow sticks and other safe sticks),etc.
Carefresh Crinkles are essentially crinkled paper sold as a nesting material, but if you can find something similar that is only paper as well it could be just as useful.
There are lots of different dried plants, some of which are safe and others are unsafe. They're great substrate enrichment much like the other things mentioned, with certain plants having health benefits(like echinacea).
I think if there was something you absolutely could not get anywhere but Viovet and got as much as you could at one shipping rate maybe it could be worth it to do very rarely, but it honestly looks like the website has a lot of nice things!

Re: Blacky's Thread - The Black Spanish Syrian Hamster
Hello Blacky and yes of course I remember you You're looking very handsome in your photo.
Sometimes Moms can be annoying Blacky, but it's only because they are love you so much and want the best for you. Sometimes you have to be brave and fearless to get the most out of life but it can be scary without encouragement from your Mom. I try to tell Jaska this too but he doesn't seem to believe me. It was nice you sat with her for a while and let her stroke you, moms appreciate this a lot
I look forward to seeing all your new toys Blacky and hearing how you like them
Lovely pics of Blacky Hamsterita and the videos are so cute, love the way he stuffed his veg in his pouch lol made me chuckle

Re: Blacky's Thread - The Black Spanish Syrian Hamster
Aww Blacky, you're too adorable to forget! You melt my heart!
It's so nice of you to thank us, you're such a polite gentleham.
Of course you & Harvey are ham-pals and have been ham-chatting on the forum and hamophone. And he's looking forward to his holiday in your super cool glass house.
A message from Harvey; hey pal I loved your videos and pics, mom always calls me with 'ooh Master Harvey, there's a video of blacky' & I run out onto my cube seat.
I'm the Master of begging, it always wins me treats and mom praises me lots. I've also learned that we have plenty admirers and having pics taken gets me extra time on the tablet & hamophone, I'm not a fan of the camera but, I love my mom and I love hearing her giggle when she takes pics. XXX
Gorgeous pics of Blacky, it's so good to see him.
