My new hammy girl
Hi, i just adopted a 1mth old hammy girl. No name yet as i just got her a few hours ago. She weighs 45g which i thought is quite big for a mth old ham? Any idea on what color she is? She has ruby color eyes.

Re: My new hammy girl
Thks for the comments everyone.
Thin Lizzy - she confirm will be 1 month old on 25/8 as i got her from a friend who adopted a female hamster from someone and 10 days later it gave birth to a litter of 8 babies. When i first saw the babies i too think that they look big for their age.
She looks so small in my big bin cage that i always cannot find her. Very scared of me. Dash off to hide at the smell of my hand and i am holding a baby corn for her. She hide in a tunnel and refused to come out even when offered food. Any idea how i can tame her? Should i put her in a smaller cage for now until she is familliar with my hand?

Re: My new hammy girl
It can take awhile for them to settle into a new cage/home. Once she has got used to her cage/bin she will likely stay out with your hand in with her.
If her bin cage has bars on the side. Try offering food through the bars. You may have to put the food through then move away to start with. Talk to her to get her used to the sound of your voice.
Put tissue up your sleeve for a few hours then tear it into strips then put the strips in the bin cage. It helps the hamster get used to your scent.

Re: My new hammy girl
Alicia, it'll all be a bit scary for her. Usually they're kept with their mums till 6 weeks old.
Try the tissue trick and talk as much as you can to her softly & quietly.
Make sure she has plenty substrate and places to hide in, this will make her feel more safer.
