Re: Introducing Alfie!
I keep chickening out, he's still not 100% over the metacam and vet visit, although he does love his new layout. He was following me around whilst I was making dinner tonight so hopefully he's nearly forgiven me although he still won't come near my hands
I need to remember to take a photo of his nest at the minute, it's so huge for such a small boy - reminds me of Charlie's Fitch mountain lol

Re: Introducing Alfie!
Woke up this morning and Alfie has been doing some redecorating. Apparently he doesn't want a door to his house, I've no idea how he'll actually get out of there later but he has firmly shut himself in lol

Re: Introducing Alfie!
Well I could hear him scuffling around in his house for about an hour but still hadn't seen him, thought it was getting a bit late so decided to lift up his house roof. He was sat by the door, unable to get out because he had decided he no longer wanted his giant nest and had shoved most of it through the door and wedged it into the tunnel. It was so compacted I had to move the bendy bridge to get it out! He was well and truly stuck inside there lol
The potty seems to have become the it place to store things, he has two Whimzees at the moment because he didn't seem to like the toothbrush so I gave him a crocodile, but they both have pride of place on the very top of the hoard. He's also decided he doesn't like the potty having rounded edges and has given them a spiky appearance

Re: Introducing Alfie!
LOL! That's strange actually because Charlie went through a phase of chewing the corners of the potty. In the end I got him a new one and he hasn't chewed that. I think sometimes they just want to not have it there so decide to chew it to death - it gets in the way of hoards.
Charlie has also done the stuffing up of the entrance I once saw him squeeze himself in through about a 1cm gap over the top of his piled up substrate blocking the door.

Re: Introducing Alfie!
Haha, there literally wasn't the space to squeeze through! When I lifted the bridge the Fitch stayed there in a tiny mound it was so compacted lol! But the way he looked at me was like I had done something monsterous, I'm not sure if it because I'm still evil metacam lady or if he was enjoying self imprisonment but I'm obviously not the flavour of the month!

Re: Introducing Alfie!
Haha! Aww
Sweep once blocked off both doors to his house. I ended up unblocking one because I was worried he'd suffocate or something! Whether he sleeps inside his house or not he burrows right down under the substrate so it was pointless me unblocking it lol though I don't think he could of got out otherwise!

Re: Introducing Alfie!
The house is directly on the cage floor due to advice from Serendipity about the weight of it, she's right if Alfie tried to burrow under it and it fell on him he'd be very squished! So there's no burrowing out of there lol
This is the state of his house at the moment, it looked quite neat before but it's a bloody mess now!
I seem to have been forgiven after my daring rescue though, he came out of his house about 10 minutes after the disturbance, straight to the front of the cage and begged to come out - I opened the door and he practically jumped into my hands

Re: Introducing Alfie!
Definitely forgiven! We've had a lovely little cuddle this evening before playtime so things are headed back to normal

Re: Introducing Alfie!
Lol I love his little face Great photos. I'm sure he could have dug out if he'd wanted - some hamsters manage to dig through plasterboard walls. He could have unstuffed the bendy bridge by digging it out from the inside. I think they often block themselves into houses to keep the humans out ha ha. I guess he could have burrowed under the door mound and bendy bridge too as it's quite a wide door.
Funnily enough I had a peek in Charlie's house today and found an almost identical picture. Sitting at the front of his potty were his toothbrush chew and new carrot chew, all covered in sand. Obviously very specially items he has put there to stop predators stealing them (worst place possible Charlie!). So it obviously doesn't matter what house their in, house big it is or how much space there is for hoards, sometimes they just want to stick stuff in their wee corner - lol!
