I have no idea at all, the house here is the same temp approx 18 deg C but it did give me quite a fright, she has never exhibited behaviour like this before it was if she was in the deepest of deepest sleeps, she didn't even react when I called or whistled her....

Was there anything that could have frightened her? Occasionally when Custard has out of cage playtime and something startles him he lays down and completely freezes up and will not move a muscle for ages even if i stroke his back or put my hand in his face.
Otherwise if there was a rapid rise/fall in room temperature hamsters can go into a kind of hibernation where they become completely stiff as though they're dead, but if neither of these apply then i'm not sure what the problem could've been.

Hope she's ok now

Maybe she had fallen asleep in a funny position? Also hammies can do this "freeze" if they hear someone coming. She could have been just going in her house, heard you and froze. Although it sounds to me like she just went to sleep where she was. Someone on here once had a video of their hammy falling asleep sitting on a shelf and nearly falling off.

That is one way of putting it, She was half way out of her house with her head and shoulders showing, I whistled and called her with no effect I even touched and she didn't move very odd indeed, she is ok after that.

This morning I gave her cage a minor second make over as she was up and about and wanted some ball time, got rid of the wood shavings substrate as I think it was making her itch a bit and cleansed and refilled her cage with some " Carefresh" substrate, cleaned out her loo and refilled with sand.

Well popped her back in and she had a right good explore and started digging in her new substrate, this is new behaviour (1) she propmptly filled her house with substrate so tightly packed I am surprised she didn't push the roof off (2), lots more digging and clambering into every nook and cranny too, she really had it about her.

This afternoon our youngest lad rang me to say Pip had escaped (cue panic) and was sitting on top of the scanner/printer which is on the same sideboard as her cage.
It would have been a heck of a climb for her to get there, well the lad rescued her even tho at 18 he is scared of a hamster.......

So she is secured back in her cage and has gone to sleep in the tubes as it is flippin warm here 22C in the back garden..

Hi Pip, its me Custard!
I heard that you weren't feeling very good last night...glad to see you felt well enough to go for an explore outside your cage today, even if it made your humans a bit stressed when they saw you had escaped. Best not tell them how you did it or they'll find a way to stop you from doing it!
Since the sun has been out today my pink human lady had the window open in my room to let a nice breeze in for me, which was lucky because otherwise I might have got a bit hot. Last night I even let her take a couple of pictures of me, although they're still a bit dark because I really don't like any bright lights when I'm awake. I will try and work on this though, even if its just for photo time.
Talk to you later,
Custard

Hi,Custard it's me Pip,
I saw your photos you are a very cute boy and quite big too, My humans friend's micro human has a hammy called "Fluff" and they call her a "Hamstersaurus" she is so big...
I spent yesterday awake a lot and as you saw escaped too, unfortunately my human has sealed off my cage again so I can only get out " supervised" as my human calls it. Though I did get two sultanas as a special treat last night.
TTFN for now Pip.

Goodness! How did she get out?! You'd better check the catches - bulldog clips can help! They do love paper and Carefresh for lining their nests Charlie used to pack his house out like that as well and then make a nice hole in the middle to crawl into!

Serendipity,
One end of her tubes had become dislodged, though I have no idea why or how.
I had to dig her house out so she could/would go back inside, Pip was all over the place yesterday afternoon and wasn't happy she was trying to sleep in all different places tubes, even on the roof of her house, but wouldn't settle, I assume it may have been because it was rather warm so I covered her cage with a towel to darken it and once I had dug out her house she scooted inside and all seemed well again.
