Dunno ... Now he's decided he loves wheels I think he's gonna run a marathon! If he can't dig for England, he'll run for England instead! (Make sure to watch the Olympics carefully, as you may one day see him, or a future ham, on there!)

Sweep here!
What have I missed? I have been doing a lot of running and sleeping. I have just woken up from a nice sleep and am now going to have something to eat. Once I have eaten I will decided what to do next. Maybe I will have a jog, or maybe even climb or dig. I haven't decided yet!

Aww Sweep, you have swept me off my feet with your antics and delightful thread! I notice you have quite a few things from P@H. Was in yesterday for Twinkle and spent a small fortune.
Really like your cage set up and pics.
Pinkneon, so happy for you, that your little gorgeous fluff is settling in.

Sweep here! Morning all!
So last night I confused the pink human lady! I was running in my wheel thing and then got tired so I went to sleep in there. Then later in the night I moved into my lovely big nest to sleep. And then even later, I decided that I would give the house a try as it now is underground! I liked it in there so much I fell asleep, but didn't take my bedding in to it, so when the pink human lady got up she came to check on me and couldn't find me!!
I am a bit annoyed with the pink human lady today. She told me I could have some carrot - whatever that is - tomorrow, but now says they aren't having carrots so I can't have some! That's not fair! Maybe if I sit and look really cute then she will give me some?? How do all you hamsters get things? Well, off for a wash now, and then some lunch! (Still no peanuts, how sad!)

What type to you use serendipity?
I started out with a Karlie Wonderland 29cm wood wheel which I loved - it was so quiet - and Charlie loved it too. But he is big and heavy and hammered it so much it had broken at the spindle within 6 months. So I had an emergency wheel situation and sent for a Trixie wheel which i could get the next way as the new Wonderland wheel was going to take 5 days. I decided the Trixie one was too lightweight for our chunky heavy hamster, so sent for a flying saucer by next day delivery as a temporary option until the new Wonderland wheel came. He liked the flying saucer but I don't think it's a replacement for a proper wheel as they run better and in a straight line in a proper wheel.

So then the Wonderland wheel arrived broken, and they sent another one out. Meanwhile I had sent for a Wodent wheel and a Wobust wheel and a Silent Spinner and thought I'd try all of them, keep one and send the others back. Wodent wheel was great - but not quite big enough for our big Syrian. Wobust wheel was absolutely massive. The second Karlie wheel also arrived damaged! The 30cm Silent Spinner was pretty useless as it just didn't spin really and wasn't that silent. So I kept the Wobust wheel - which Charlie loved but it filled the cage up rather a lot. But he was in line for a cage upgrade anyway, so I was happy keeping it because he liked it and ran well hung from the top of the cage. Coco bought the 27cm Wodent Wheel off me and Zooplus didn't charge me for the broken/splintery Wonderland wheels. So one got binned and the other got sanded to keep as a spare (also now broken after someone dropped something on it). Then I saw something about the 9" Silent Runner wheels in the US and sent the link to someone who was looking for a 9" wheel. Then found the Sugarglider shop in the Uk were selling the 12" Silent Runner wheel which they said was safer and better than wodent wheels. It was just the right size for us - still a 12" wheel like the Wobust but not as massively deep (9cm deep like the Karlie wheel, which I think is just right). So I took the plunge and got one and it is my favourite wheel so far!

So Charlie has the new 12" Silent Runner wheel made by Exotic Nutrition - it's screwed to the bars of his new Barney cage, and has mounting plates so doesn't distort the bars, it's silent, it spins really well and he loves it. it's not cheap though at about £25 and the mounting plates are an extra £5.

So basically I think the 27cm Wodent wheels and the 12" Silent Runners are the best, and wodent wheels work best hung upside down I reckon. I do love the Karlie wood wheels but had too many issues with mine - but I know some people have had them for years. I prefer the smooth running track on the Wodent and Silent Runners though, for their feet, although I don't think any hams have had problems with the struts on the Karlie wheel. They do need checking for splinters though, and light sanding possibly, and plastikoting.

Sorry Pink Neon - didn't mean to hijack Sweep's thread. But that is my wheel saga. I so wished Charlie hadn't been too big and heavy for the 28cm Trixie or 27cm Wodent wheel, but he was. I can definitely recommend the 12" Silent runner even if you don't actually need a 12" wheel because it's great - light, spins well and pretty silent. Unless it has food in it lol.

Do you have a full level in your two tier Ferplast cage? (Is it the rat cage?)

Princess Poppy is up and about!

I really want to get her out but I don't know if I should![/QUOTE]

Really glad Sweep's settling in well and having fun and enjoying the Trixie wheel! Does it fit ok in the Maxi Duna? I think the corners slope on the top a bit at the ends don't they? I know they fit in the centre part.

Message from Cookie: "Aww Sweep, you certainly seem to be settling down nicely in your new home and your Mummy. I have just moved into my new home now, and just found out that my new home has a "ham-top" with free "Ham-fi" network. So I can chat to all the hamsters on here. You just happen to be the first one I looked at. Playing and digging sound like fun. I have been doing that too...but I love running on my wheel lots...going to go back on my wheel now."

Cookie (with a little help from Mweekie) xx

Yeah, once I'd removed the substrate off the bottom of the cage, much to Sweep's dismay! But if I hadn't, it would have had to go in diagonally!

Sweep here!!!
I keep getting called "Sweepy" by the pink human lady. MY NAME IS SWEEP NOT SWEEPY!! I have been asleep allllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll day. Might just get up for some dinner now ...
Cookie, what is "ham-top" and "ham-fi"? How do I know if I have them??

"Hello Sweep. "Ham-top" is like the laptop or computer that human's use. "Ham-fi" is what human's call "Wi-Fi" which helps you go and chat on here. Love Cookie xx
P.S - I get called all different names...including "Cooks", "Sugar Cookie" and "Baby girl" lol xx"

Dear Sweep
Welcome to HC. If you use your wheel you can access the Ham-net and this is run by the Hamster Resistance Network. This is a good way to contact your friends here.
The HRN helps hammies who feel in prison. Personally I cannot be bothered to escape. I live in a barney and although I hide from Mum most of the time, she once left my door open all night and I was too lazy to escape. She was very relieved and I got lots of treats! My advice is to make sure you get Mum wrapped around your little paw. Then you will have a great time
Love Mocho
