Re: Being Sweep - the life of a hamster!
Or save the maxi duna multi Incase Sweep decides to chew the bars in a new cage (really hope he doesn't though).
Or even use the maxi duna multi for a dwarf hamster.

You could always make a nice wooden platform from plywood with timber legs to go in the maxi. I am considering this for Woodstock to make his maxi more exciting.
I find that whizzy hamsters like new toys every few days. I add in the odd cardboard box with doors cut into them. It gives them something new to investigate and (hopefully) takes their mind off escaping!

Can't really put a shelf in as there wouldn't be room to put anything on top, and also Sweep has discovered that if he stabds on top of his house he can reach the top of the cage and will monkey bar along the top, try climbing out when I open the cage, and try chewing the bars if there is no book there!
What I like about the Alexander or the Barney are the doors on the side, which may suit Sweep a lot better as he is still nervous when I open the top and side doors would be better for me to access the access the cage and feed him etc

Can't mulitoquote on my tablet lol ... I have no space to keep the Duna as a spare, mainly because I'm staying with family. ! Also if he was happier in a different cage and then chewed it and then I put him back in this one he'd be unhappy again
As for dwarf hamsters ... I've never owned one except temporarily, and they are so fast I'd e too scared of dropping them! May consider one in the future but not right now
Also can only have one hammy whilst staying with my family ... Probably a good thing though otherwise I'd turn the house into a sort of zoo!

Re: Being Sweep - the life of a hamster!
This is Sweep! Why are all you human people talking about me?! Anyway, I must have been very very good because last night I found a tiny tiny bit of the thing named "strawberry" AND a tiny tiny bit of "narna"! I was SO happy! I took the "strawberry" to my wheel-thing to sit there and eat. Then I took the "narna" to the square thing with holes in and hid in there to eat it. Then I stood on top of the house to wash my little face and paws like a good boy! I want to know why "strawberry" is named that because it is not made of straw?! The pink human lady says I am getting a new home! I hope she means a new home to live in but still with her, and not a new home to live in with a new human person ... I will be very sad otherwise! Looks like all my attempts to escape may have finally worked! She says I "will be happier" in a new home, but she won't tell me anything about it!!! I want to know!!!!!!!!!!! See you later! Sweep

Re: Being Sweep - the life of a hamster!
Hi Sweep. Sounds like a real feast! We like talking about you! Only nice things of course.
Pink Neon, I'm feeling a bit guilty at recommending the Maxi Duna Multy when it hasn't worked out for Sweep. It's a shame as it looks such a lovely cage, but I think you are right, he would get more benefit from a more conventional cage with shelves.
Sweep is such a great name. I had a toy 'Sweep' puppet from Sooty and Sweep when I was a kid, and always loved the name

It's ok don't feel guilty! I had really wanted to try a cae a little like this because I was worried about bar chewing more than anything. I just have to hope he doesn't turn to bar chewing when he gets the new cage. I am trying to remember if there is something you can put on the bars to stop chewing?

Re: Being Sweep - the life of a hamster!
Dear hamsters and human people,
Sweep here So the pink human lady came to give me a treat and I decided to try and escape. I would have got out too if she hadn't stopped me! So I wanted to hang upside down but instead I dropped right on to the pink human lady's paw!! So I sat there for a few seconds because I was a bit confused. BUT I got an extra treat for it!! Oh, what's this?! Got to investigate! ...
Oh, and I forgot to tell you. The pink human lady gave me the thing named "toothbrush". It was yummy! She is confused because it has disappeared and keeps asking me if I ate it ... Well if I did I'm not telling her! That was my "toothbrush"-thing so I will do what I want with it!
