Talking The Long Road home: Introducing Aurora, Eve, Borealis (Boris), and Paladin

As Sirius's health was failing, I made a decision that my next hammy would be a Syrian. Not only that but I would get the animal from a reputable breeder and hopefully avoid much of the heartache that came with Little Sirius's decline in health. Enter Eve, who was at the time just getting close to being old enough to go home, and a darling little long haired female. Coinciding with Sirius's first failed attempt to return home in march, she suffered an injury and it wound up being about two weeks before she could be picked up. (as I am writing this she is proving that Silent Runners are silent, save the rather loud pitter patter of hammy feet.) Cue Boris, who was going to be just old enough to be picked up by the new date, and his sister Aurora (whom he was mistaken for at first) and an unexpected but very handsome Paladin.

Yesterday was spent in the car, driving a round trip of 164 miles to bring these little dolls/devils home. Big thank yous to Nancy's Hamsters and Erin R.

Eve: I was abducted from my comfy nest and shifted into a carrier where I got to watch everything from the front seat of the metal dragon, which rumbled quite disconcertingly. I did make sure to give my new mommy disapproving looks whenever her management of the Large rumbling beast (Mommy calls it a Firebird) was less than adequate or made it difficult to balance long enough to pee. I managed like a true lady always does, using my acrobatics and skills to keep everything in the potty corner, but I let my displeasure be known at needing to use my skills. My fellow inmates were not as graceful, nor as ladylike. But Aurora will learn. Maybe.

Aurora: Must escape, must escape, must escape, must escape. egg. Must escape.

Palidin: Zzzzzzzz.

Boris: I think I got bedding up my nose. Are we there yet? Why does this thing smell like Eggs. Paladin, Aurora is touching me... make her Stahp! are we there yet? Can I have another cucumber?

Well you get the idea.

At the minute, Boris and Paladin share a cage as they aren't quite at the age to separate yet, and I didn't want to stress them out too much, but Boris will have his own cage here in the next few weeks, It's quite cute though, The two share a nest, despite being given options for two nests, and Palidin likes to "Protect" Boris when I go to check on him. (Boris was a little chirpy so he's being watched carefully for signs of illness. He's less so now but loves to complain about everything.) Eve just makes dinosaur noises when she wakes up.

Eve is also particular about her sand. I made the mistake of putting a sand pit in the same place as her wheel, Her wheel was soon filled with sand much to her dismay when she tried to run in it, so the boys got her cage and she's getting the new cage that has sand in a glass fishbowl.

Amusingly everyone has different wake/sleep cycles. Eve starts getting active around 8-9 pm while the babies are a little later. Enough yammering TL DR, picture time (Boris was the only one who liked holding still

Aww, Thanks. <3 I adore them all, but I have to get used to their sounds, with the open mesh cages I've been panicked at every sound thinking they've managed to escape on me.

20160505_234754.jpg Here's Eve on hamster Central, and Amazon. Because evidently I need to buy more toys. All of them are handle-able, no bites or bad behavior when picked up, but I'm working on getting them tame to the point where they come on their own.

Tee hee The gang looks to be settling quite nicely. Now I know Aurora was not planned but is she not your master along with Eve, Boris, and Paladin? (referring to your signature statement)

For a time frame 164 miles is about 4 hours of driving and oddlyoblivious was also kind enough to deliver Erin R the Golden Band sister to Boris,Paladin, and Aurora, as well as the bigger of the two Black Tort Het Polywhite Banded Dominant Spot pups (TT's Sister) from the D-16 litter.

Eve is perhaps The pickiest of them. The tp igloo was only tolerated long enough to collect a pile of substrate to nest in. The triplets love it. The boys nest where I set up the house the girls are way picker.

They look great, especially Boris, he must have just been grumpy from all the traveling
I think we have all been there "I am just getting one" yet somehow I ended up with 30 lol.
Eve looks like she is going to be a little madam, queen of the hams.
Thanks again for being kind enough to drop of my two little ladies
