Default Sleepy or Lazy!

I have now had my hamster Humphrey for just over 2 weeks and the only time he seems to come out from his bed is when I wake him up.
He's 7 weeks old now and appears well in himself, he is becoming less worried about being handled and, last night he worked out how to
move along in his ball!
I have moved him from the Utility room where it is very quiet into the living room to see whether he would wake up in an evening, and last night my husband was still up at 2.30 am and said that he didn't come out at all. Now all the other syrians we have had in the past have got up at between 5 and 7.00 pm asking for attention!
Do I need to worry or is he just a very laid back hammy.

Default Re: Sleepy or Lazy!

Youngsters are normally up and about and quite active Jane but he may well be when you are all asleep in bed. Check his botty and that his poops are nice and solid as wet tain can bring them down quite a bit. Babies do tend to sleep too and he may just be still settling in. Get him and up when you want to handle and check him and I'm sure he will soon start to come out when you call him. Is he wheel running a lot? They can exhaust themselves if they become wheel obsessive so if he is running for hours it may be an idea to restrict it to a few hours a night.
