Re: P2's Thread
Don't beat yourself up-- it would have been much worse if he'd gotten away. I'm sure you'll be forgiven. They are fast and unpredictable. A safe playpen is a good idea. xx
ETA forgot to say how adorable he is in the mug!

Re: P2's Thread
@cypher and piebald: I'm fine i guess. Thank you. I've read and watched videos about how to tame hamsters and I know not to hurry things up with them but I'm too excited, and stubborn so this thing happened. I was completely fine yesterday, you know. He was responding to my voice, we played by his playpen but now he won't take any treats from me. He won't even take it even if i put it down inside his cage. All he does is run. Does this really happen? Like, do hamsters ignore treats at times? I am so paranoiiiid

Re: P2's Thread
Hamsters do ignore treats sometimes so don't worry about that, he may still be a bit stressed out but should get over it, just take a step back for a few days, let him do his own thing in the playpen, talk to him but don't try to rush him back into interacting with you if he needs a little break.

Re: P2's Thread
I find it hard to just leave him alone even if he probably enjoys it more thatln interacting with me because I was away from home for almost a month and will leave again for another two weeks so I feel like we have a lot of catching up to do. But i don't want any kind of that incident to happen again so yeah, i'm gonna step back. Hope he'll miss me petting him.

Re: P2's Thread
Progress!
I was talking to P2 last night and it was so cute how he was listening very intently, like I could read him a children's book and he'd probably enjoy it. But instead of a book, I grabbed a treat which he happily took (didn't mean to rhyme)
I was a bit sleepy then but he was being friendly and I could give up sleep for a play with him at any given circumstance. I then placed a sunflower seed on my palm. He sniffed and climbed up my hand without hesitations. "Good boy." He also let me pet him. At this point, I knew I had been forgiven about the last incident. And it was confirmed when I placed my palm on his cage, without any treats, and he climbed up to me at his will! It wasn't the first time he did it but it was the first in a very long time. 2 months ago, perhaps. I was away from home for weeks and it set us back big time.
Anyway, I played then with him. He would walk on my hand, climb up my tummy and nibble on my fingers and clothes. I didn't want to put him down his playpen because I knew that when I do, he'd ignore me next. But I did it anyway and I was right. Though he seemed to enjoy himself so I just let him.
This morning, I greeted him good morning and he responded to my voice and went near me. I just melted. I thought it was just a one night thing, with this moody teddy. Because he was so sweet, I gave him a treat. I then put my empty palm inside his cage and he climbed up again! And for like 20-30 seconds, he just sat on my palm. What a good way to start the day, eh?
We'll be on vacation next week and it will be for ten days. My cousin will take care for him. They were supposed to be on a vacation as well at the same time with us but for some reason, theirs was cancelled. I'm torn between feeling bad that it didn't push through and feeling relieved that someone will now look after P2. Anywau, I hope this won't set P2 and I back again. I hope we'll continue with this progress until he can trust me fully.

Re: P2's Thread
Well done both of you!
That really does sound like progress.
Being away for 10 days may set him back a bit, it's quite a long time for a ham but he should come round again, just give him some time & take it slow when you get back if he doesn't seem so keen to interact when you get back.

Re: P2's Thread
P2 is such a cutie! Very handsome too!
He seems so unique in so many ways!
Don't feel bad about the panic grab. Something like that happens to most people. I had an incident 2 or so weeks ago where I flinched as my new hammy bit me really hard.
I have loved reading about how your relationship has progressed, keep it up!
Don't worry about going on vacation, go and have fun. It might set back the taming a little, but as cypher said he may just need a bit of time to rediscover the connection between you and something good happening (:

Re: P2's Thread
That is true, he is so unique. I've been learning more and more about his personality and behaviors, and I just love watching him. I find it funny how he puts tissue on his food stash than on where he sleeps. He loves food so much he wants to keep it comfy and warm. Haha
I do hope that it won't take us long before we get back to track.
