On Wednesday the 19th August, I went to petsathome to get some rat food, next thing I know, I'm on the way home with a new hamster! Its been around 4 years since I have owned a hamster (i've had 4 syrians in the past) and when my boyfriend got himself a hamster, I realised just how much I missed owning them. So I said to myself that when I get the big cage i've always wanted (the Alaska) then I can go and get a hamster. However, it didn't really work out that way!
That day I needed some rat food, so me and my boyfriend went to petsathome. Now, of course I just had to look at the animals and thats when I saw a tank with 3 incredibly fluffy, female syrian hamsters in. There was Flump, a ginger and white one and a pale yellow and white one. I fell in love with little Flump and just knew I had to get her. So I looked at the cages-all of them were awful, so I just got a cheap £25 for her temporarily. Picked up a few toys, food, treats and everything else I needed for her, and went to pay for everything. After that, we went back in (after loading everything in my car) and asked about the hamsters.
The staff in this certain store are very nice, this PetsAtHome isn't the closest one to me, but is the only one thats not located in a huge stressful industrial park (These sorts of busy places stress me out so I drove 45 minutes to the quieter store xD) and one of the staff members recognised me from a previous visit, when I got two rats. So she served me and was chatting to me a lot about my rats and past hamsters. When she woke the hamsters up, so I could look at them all, it was clear that Flump was getting to the age where she was becoming strictly solitary-as starting fighting with her cage mates! I was told she was just 10 weeks old and the member of staff was shocked that she was fighting with her sisters so early on.
Anyway, I fell in love with Flump and took her home. I had my boyfriend put the cardboard box that she was in, inside her cage just in case she escaped-which she did! And was running around the cage the whole drive home!
We got home, told everyone I now had a hamster (dad was not impressed, but did suspect it as we took three hours! (I took forever looking at all the hamsters and other animals before getting what I actually needed-rat food)) we then set up the cage.
Flump settled in incredibly quickly and taming is going well so far! She will happily and gently, take treats from my hand, she only wriggles a little bit when I pick her up, and when she's being held she doesn't freak out and leap (unlike 3 of my past hamsters!) which is really good
The girl who served me in the shop said they get handled a lot when they are in the back of the store and Flump and her sisters had only been up for sale for a few hours! They got put out the morning I went, so she's had pretty consistant handling so far.
Anyway, this is Flump! I named her Flump because her colour reminds me of a marshmellow so Flump it is! As you can see she is super fluffy!
This thread will be updated regularly about Flump and her life! Enjoy!
