Re: Hubble's thread
Katmick, I got it from p@h. It's the Edible Hideaway Hut. He seems to like it, but he hasn't nibbled on it much yet.

Re: Hubble's thread
Glad to see he is having fun. Must be settling down now after getting the cage arranged and removing the tubes. He is such a handsome boy.

Thanks Jen, I am from Ireland and we don't have P&H here... Ah well, when I go over to UK I will pop over to P&H too! Thanks!

Thanks! I think he is settling in well now.
I'm really looking forward to taming. I'm going to do the bathtub method that I've seen so many people talk about. Any tips on when I should try the first session?

Re: Hubble's thread
If he has become used to your scent from the tissue method then the weekend may be ok. Just make sure there is a towel down and the plug in! also when you sit in there and let him run over you, just make sure he cannot run up you and take a leap for the world outside. Eg up your arm, shoulder and OFF!

Yeah, I've been putting some scented tissues in there every day, so he should be used to my scent by now. I may give it a go this weekend if things continue to go well today and tomorrow!

There's one in Newry and tons in around Belfast if you're ever up north direction?
Bathtub method is a great way to go, I used to put a hide of some kind in there too in case it takes a while for them to warm up to the idea. And yeah, watch out for the shoulder escape, it's hard to bend your arms in all the directions they need to go to get a hamster off the back of your neck! Maybe have a buddy just for the first time in case there's a Houdini

Re: Hubble's thread
Progress (maybe) with Hubble this evening. He's been waking up promptly at 8:30 pm for the past few evenings, so I was ready by the cage with treats and his ball tonight. I'm not sure who is trying to tame who here... After he'd had a stretch, yawn, and a wash, I opened the cage door and held the ball out for him. He hopped in right away! Once out, he rolled about for five minutes or so before stopping in the corner. I'm not sure if he was less interested or just still a bit sleepy. Regardless, I put him back inside his cage and gave him his very first sunflower seed. Boy, did he gobble that one up. I think I've found his favorite.
For the past few nights, I've spent some time just sitting by his cage with the door open talking to him while he runs around and does hamster things. My boyfriend thinks I'm nuts. Tonight was the first time he came up to the door on his own without any prompting. So, I gave him another sunflower seed.
Then, I tried a mealworm. He sniffed at that, then sniffed my fingers and gave me a little nibble. And then another nibble. I pulled away a little, and he turned and walked off. I think I offended him, haha. So, a few minutes later, I tried another mealworm. He nibbled me again. I'm not sure if he was going to go in for a full on bite, but I hope not. It seems like we're making progress otherwise. Maybe he just doesn't like mealworms, and the nibble was a way to tell me so! Silly hamster.

Re: Hubble's thread
Good boy Hubble! That's lovely progress Dont be put off having a chat to him through the bars, I find they are excellent listeners!
Investigative nibbles are just making 100% sure you're not food, maybe the smell of mealworms was on your hands? Cc doesn't like mealworms either, I can't say I blame her, the dried ones look awful :P

They definitely do not look appetizing! Maybe I've found myself a vegeterian ham like me. He's turned his nose up at mealworms, turkey, and egg so far!
It's official. Hubble has taken to nesting in the Sports Direct mug instead of the other three potential shelters. If that's where he wants to sleep, that's fine with me, I just think it's pretty amusing that out of all the things I got for him, his favorite is the mug I accidentally got in a Sports Direct order and put in the cage on a whim.
