Sasha
Hello all, I just wanted to introduce my new hamster Sasha. I got her from a pet store, so she is somewhere between 4-7 weeks. She is golden in colour. I have just started taming with holding out food for her, I am wondering if it is too soon. I got her on Wendesday. She does take it, and come close to smell my hand. I know it can take a long time to tame, but would like to hold her asap. Since she is acting alright, should I just keep up with the taming? Thanks, and I can wait to learn lots.

Re: Sasha
Congratulations on the new addition! You've had her for a few days, so as long as she doesn't seem too scared it's fine to start taming now. Is she totally ok with your hand being in her cage, or does she grab the food and run? If she's ok with your hand, you can probably move onto the bathtub method. Put a towel down in an empty bathtub, sit in it and let her climb on and around you. That way she can get used to being around you without feeling trapped. If you have a ball for her you can use that to transport her to the bathtub.

Re: Sasha
Hi Charlene and Welcome to the forum.
Sasha will have been 6 weeks or more when you got her. 4 weeks is too young to be sold at.
How long have you had her?

Re: Sasha
I got Sasha on March 11, she was separated from the others when I got her. The cage I have is on the small side, but I am working on making a large bin cage, just need to cut a hole & buy the mesh. Thanks so much for your help. She does like to eat from my hand, I have mostly been giving her small pieces of chicken, as her mix is only 17% protein. She also likes to listen when I chat with her, and smell my hand through the bars. I think she will be very affectionate. I do need to get a bigger wheel, but I am 2 hours from the nearest pet store, so that will have to wait, but I have lots of toys and a digging box.

Re: Sasha
What you have for Sasha will do for a wee while, it let's you work on the bin cage and save up for a bigger wheel. Have you tried dried Mealworms on Sasha! They're protein too.
