Default My (large) brood!

Well, I guess they aren't ALL mine! I just pay for everything!

Our latest hamster venture started Christmas 2013. My oldest and youngest daughters decided to pool their Christmas money and each buy a hamster. Sadly, the pet store'sstaff were not all tha knowledgeable and told is that our Syrian brothers would be fine in a habitrail retreat cage. HAH!

We learned... And upgraded the boys to LARGE aquariums with lots of activities. Then my oldest started researching breeding.... And also started working with our local SPCA. She decided she wanted to try breeding her Rex... Since this guy is one of the most DOCILE hammies I've ever seen! So we brought home Cleo... And while we were choosing Cleo the staff mentioned they had another female Syrian in the back who was part of their rescue program as she had something wrong with her. We figure it's either due to being dropped or a birth defect, but whatever the cause she has a head tilt. It's kind of funny to watch her and she runs around her ball then suddenly veers right from the tilt! She is SO affectionate... Almost reminds me of a child with down syndrome. (NO demeaning intent... My goddaughter has downs which is where we saw the comparison!) we then ended up with a 5th hamster due to my daughters friend getting one and promptly neglecting it.

So 5 adults.... Then she breeds Cleo. 12 babies. All were healthy and Mama didn't cull any!!! Add in our 2 guinea pigs and you can imagine our "pet room!"

All but 5 babies have found their new homes. We're picky about where they go... And have made each family sign a contract that if they find they can't care for their hamster they must bring it back to us to re-home. (Mostly because we would just keep them!) thankfully all the babies have gone to people we know so we get updated on the frequently!

Here Is a picture of my Charlotte! We don't know how old she really is... So we just count every day with her as a blessing! As soon as I figure out how I'll post pictures of everyone else!

She's adorable! my previous little Ron was a rescue... apparently he was too fast for his previous owner? But never the less an amazing guy. Only he could escape during the night and rummage around but when he got fed up would wake me up by sitting on my head until i popped him back to bed.

Same picture as in my welcome post... is there a way to attach more than one at a time?

So here are all of our babies. 10 hammies and 2 guinea pigs!

The adults are (In order of arrival!)
Rex
Dixie
Wilbur (Formerly Q-tip)
Charlotte
Cleo

The babies are:
Charming (Prince Charming)
Thomas
Emma
Snow White
Killian (AKA Squishy... up until Neale went to his new home today we couldn't tell who was who so we just called them the Squishies!)

And the Big Boys are Patch and Harley. They're brothers.... about 10 months old now!

We also have a tank full of fish, but honestly they're just Kinetic Art! LOL
