BrainGirl- That is what we have actually done for the time being. My dad is making two separate lids tonight though so this certainly won't happen again.
Tibbles has been a little bit of these past couple of days, whether that's because she's still settling in to her new cage I'm not sure, I am keeping a good eye on her though.
Bruno is getting a little fixated on the corner of his cage where Tibbles was, he's constantly trying to get out not that it's going to happen unless he can chew through glass. I've rearranged his cage to try and block the corner of but he's still managing to burrow his way to the corner.
I suppose they both need time to get used to there new cage, the stress they've gone through these past couple of days is a lot. Hopefully they come around soon. Thanks everyone for your kind advice, I was really worried I was going to get judged for the whole situation even though it was an accident but I was completely wrong everyone's so kind and sipportive

Hello bbbarker. It sounds to me that the one most stressed by all of this is you! The hammies were, most likely, startled to meet each other, and rather interested to meet again, since they are opposite sexes. But I doubt they are upset by the encounter. Your male will,of course, be interested in meeting your female as it is natural for him to want to mate. Since you and your dad have come up with a good solution to keep this from happening again, I see no need to beat yourself up. I think all of us hammy owners learn what to do and not to do by similar experiences. Many a ham's escape has been watched with bated breath by HC members, and great sighs of relief when an escapee returns have resulted. We've all been there.
