Default Introducing Pekoe

Or Orange Pekoe, or whatever you'd like to call her.

Born July 23rd, 2014, she's a lovely young tort and white lady. Her parents are Glory and Shiloh, and she was bred by Nancy here. She is such a pleasure to have! She will sit in my hand and eat treats and is very curious and inquisitive.

I've learned she's not big into sunflower seeds, or meal worms, but likes puffed rice and yoghurt drops. Haha.

She is bigger, and calmer, than Chai, and we hope, once she's big enough, to pair her with a male from Darissa's current litter (should Darissa provide a lovely little boy for her!).

First day home:

"I'm not plotting anything!"

These are from a few days later.

"Peekaboo!"

I think she will rival Java for a broad muzzle and wide expressive ears.

I can't remember which girl is in Java's old tank, but I think Pekoe is, hence the lack of silicone... lol. Chai is a silicone chewer, but I haven't caught Pekoe doing it.

Pekoe also likes to sit in her bowl - however, she and Biscotti won't get to know each other, because of their different patterns, and the chance that both could carry cinnie (cinnie dom spot banded = bad news).

Those were taken last week - unfortunately not too many new pictures. Since both girls are kinda bouncy ping-pong balls, I don't take many pictures out of the tank yet. However, Pekoe is getting much better, and my SO treated her to a bunch of puffed rice a few days ago (and consequently stuffed her pouches!)

Either way she's lovely, and we hope she grows into a stellar lady-ham like her mummah Glory, and will eventually bring Strong Brew some gorgeous banded torts.

(and for now I can blabber and call them both "Pekoe-koekoekoekoe!" and "ChaiChaiChaiChai!")

Awe she's so cute. I weighed Lilly last night, she went from 57g to 80g in 10 days. Hopefully that's normal, the little piggy I had to drag her out of bed, she has decided she wants to sleep until I go to bed. Needless to say she was annoyed with me for removing her house. She didn't chatter but opened her mouth and bounced at me like she was going to take my hand off lol.
It will be fun to watch her sister grow up too

Ahhh, Lilly and Pekoe are on par, Pekoe weighed in at 80g last night

Pekoe wakes up randomly throughout the day, but hasn't tried to bite. Chai has given me a few nips, but I told her no, and she screeched like a banshee, haha. Pekoe is vocal at times, but not to that extent.

I can't wait to see Lilly grow up too! Both girls are so lovely.

Thanks!

Funnily enough, I had no idea until it was brought up, but I did some googling about it. I can't find the website again but a need to.

Something about that combination makes it so that the pigment in the colon doesn't form properly, and so cinnie dom spot banded babies don't live for very long. Not necessarily a lethal combination, but definitely one to avoid. I'll see if I can find the website.

Got it: http://purplekatkritters.tripod.com/syrian/Sgenes.html

It's at the very bottom.

I wouldn't have known unless Nancy had pointed it out, but it's something for me to be aware of, since I do have both patterns. I do not plan to cross them at this point, but deal with them separately, but I have to keep it in mind, knowing Pekoe could carry one 'p' from her dad, Biscotti likely carries it, Chai is dove, and Darissa also likely carries the 'p' gene.

So long as we don't mix patterns we should be fine. Also reduces any risk of Wh, but given our two patterned hamsters come from long lines that don't have Wh in them (though a test would be good, and why we always will plan pattern to solid) we should be good!

Boy she and Lilly have gained nicely I'm enjoying seeing them as they grow. Shiloh waves a paw to his children.
