Good point, they're not small but not big either. Could try some bigger ones. Or I think there are reusable cable ties available as well, so you can take them on and off (saves going through loads of cable ties).

I am quite happy with the set up now though, because it'll do him as he gets older. I just realised that his roof run is basically all quite level. Once he's on his house roof, it's a low step up to the back shelf from his red bench, then straight into the tube, into the sputnik, and the sputnik is actually sat on the left shelf. So he doesn't have to climb over the cork log to get to the left shelf if he doesn't want. Although still needs to be able to get onto his house roof, but it's not that high to get up to.

Might have to look at water bottles again as well. The one over his stone on the house roof sits too low now. I've put another one on the front wall of the cage, higher up, but the bars on the Barney bend easier and the bottle clips is opening them up to over 1cm in that area, so have cable tied that area for now. I still have his rodipet bottle stand but not sure where I could put it now lol!

Here's Charlie the night he moved into the cage. Only a short video of 2 or 3 minutes

Watched every last second and enjoyed them all! Lovely to see Charlie exploring everything and the set up looks wonderful. Strange how the bars change colour. I am sure mine are black! I am going to contemplate a tweak or two to Mocho's set up now.

Thanks Coco and Jen! He found two monkey nuts in his food bowl (from the Harry Hamster mix), pouched the bigger one and nipped off and cracked the other one open, hid part of it on that little shelf at the back, ate part of it and then shot in his house ha ha.

The music on the video is to replace the noise of family chattering in the background, but I quite liked the music too.

Coco the bars are a different colour - they're light grey (described as 'silver') it's because I needed to get it here quickly so bought it from German Amazon instead of Zooplus and they did next day delivery! It's still the Barney but just a slightly different colour lol. I just wish I had made the decision a lot earlier so I could have waited for it to come from Zooplus instead but am trying to work to self-imposed deadlines at the moment! And I'd already spent a week or more going round the houses deciding. Ended up having to pay a bit more to get one quicker as well. It seems strange not having black bars.

I think everyone's layout is a bit different - I like yours and Bertie Bobbins - hams have different preferences for things sometimes and are different age groups, and layouts have to fit round different houses and so on.

I was inspired by other peoples' layouts and set ups. I liked the back shelf idea next to the wheel on Virtual Keith's set up in his Goran. I liked your Savic Rat tube! (Had to have one of those, been wanting one for ages!). That turned out to be a good buy as it is a bit longer than the boredom breaker tubes and fitted across the diagonal between the left sputnik and the right back shelf. Little hidey place ideas from Cypher's and other peoples' cages, and a few ideas from German cages, like raising the house and cork logs.

My heart just melted . Charlie has had two nights settling in so tonight I got him out for some familiarity. He seemed pleased to see his donut bed and curled up in it under the blanket for a nap, then had a little cuddle and a piece of chicken. Putting him back was a bit different, so I just popped him through the small left door on the substrate near his bendy bridge house entrance and he went in. A few minutes later he came out again and look at this!

He hopped into the coconut, had a little wash then went to sleep He never used to come out of his house except to get food and go back in again! Not before lights out anyway. Other half sneezed which woke him up so I sneaked a second photo through the top door, then decided I'd better not do that again while he's settling in and making it his territory, so just sneaked the one

That's his half asleep look

Then he curled up and went back to sleep again and he's still in there. He liked that coconut house as soon as he saw it lol.

Just before I went to bed he came out of it and walked rather cautiously across to the cork log and disappeared down there

I think he's maybe a bit more apprehensive tonight, so maybe the newness and excitement has worn off and he's feeling the unfamiliarity a bit. So he probably will need some settling in time.

He's so cute. Where did you get the coconut house. I have only seen half coconut hides and they were in the reptile section of the shops.

It took a while to find one that looked like it had a big enough entrance hole for a syrian.

It's this one. It's nice quality without too many rough bits, although I did check inside and rub around a bit to get any knobbly bits off but it's mostly smooth.

Small Pet Toy Coconut Hut: Amazon.co.uk: Pet Supplies

I've had it for ages, sitting in its box and no space to put it in the cage before.
