Re: Charlie's thread
Just saw your list on another thread about cress being ok but not mustard and cress (is there a way of telling if it is just cress?) I am tempted to put the whole pot in lol! But not sure what it's grown in - it almost looks like paper.
Just found this info on cress - sounds like the stuff you get from supermarkets isn't all cress anyway, but rapeseed plant. Which is probably fine too. As Charlie isn't a trampler and is rather picky I think I'll put the pot in and see what he makes of it.

Re: Charlie's thread
There are a lot of different types of cress I wasn't really sure which one supermarkets use but I didn't know it might be rape seed, I might try germinating some of mine for the hams & see if they like it, one of the few ham safe seeds I hadn't thought of doing & I have loads more rapeseed than they can eat anyway!
If it was mustard & cress it would say on the label, you don't seem to see it so much now anyway.
I'm pretty sure cress is grown on some sort of paper, I doubt he'd eat it anyway.
Look forward to hearing how Charlie gets on with his mini garden

Re: Charlie's thread
It might not be a good idea to feed a lot of rape actually Apparently it can affect kidneys and cause kidney stones if fed too much.
Oilseed Rape (Rape, Oil Seed Rape) - Plant Categories - The Tortoise table
Probably not something to leave in the cage, but fine if fed in very small amounts.

Re: Charlie's thread
That goes for almost any plant, veg, herb or sprout tbh, especially as they're so tiny they shouldn't have too much of anything, so lots of variety & small amounts with fresh foods is the best way to go.

Re: Charlie's thread
Charlie tends to just eat bits of what he wants, so it should be fine. I think overfeeding something means giving them large amounts regularly. I'd like to see his reaction to the pot though

Re: Charlie's thread
Well done to your OH for looking after Charlie for those 10 days while you were away. Thanks to the detailed list you left, coped brilliantly and Charlie didn't seem to be affected by it.
Glad to hear Bonnie Prince Charlie is still active. He's an absolute sweetheart!

Re: Charlie's thread
Lol! Charlie was scared by the pot of green stuff in his cage and very nervous about it, edging in and out of his house door, so I took it out again and just put a few bits out instead.
Thanks Thin Lizzy. Yes I thought he'd done a grand job - until the other day he just said - oh I just made it up as I went along! What! Anyway Charlie got his veg every night even though not exactly the variety I had suggested. My "list" ran out and I was back a day late so he had to make it up the last night.

Re: Charlie's thread
lol! @ Charlie being scared by his cress, must have been a bit of a shock to wake up & find he suddenly had a garden outside his house
Did he eat any of the bits you left him?
