An update on little Benny.
He is, as expected, thriving in the Spyro household! he's a mischievous little man with such a sense of adventure in his spirit such a wonderful addition to my home a real pleasure to watch and interact with.

I finally got some pictures that were viewable! Enjoy

Benny's Frozen Baby Food; x3 it was too cute not to share lol.

Benny enjoying the star shaped deliciousness; he eats a little over 1/2 teaspoon.

Benny just poking around his cage;

He's made about as much progress (in 3days) with taming as Charlie has done in the few weeks I've had him!
He was hopping out of his cage onto my hand last night, and running from hand to hand - only a few repetitions before his sense of adventure made him want to go further afield.

Once I figure out how to display 3 hammies aesthetically, in my sig, his is going to be Benny, the Explorer!

I am yet to weigh him again, didn't want to do it too soon. Hopefully at the end of this week he will have gained a good amount; on average now Charlie and Gloria seem to gain about 4g a week, so I expect to see a greater increase in Benny.
If I see 0 increase at all, I know there is something wrong and I will be taking him to see someone who can help me figure out what the cause is. He is high in energy, very alert and a very happy seeming little hammy, I see no signs of illness or problems.
He does make a breathy, squeaky sound (once) sometimes while he's in his nest and (I assume) sleeping. It's not quite a squeak, more like an inhaled breath with a squeak - its pretty loud and only happens the once. I'm pretty sure it's him as its a noise that only began since he came along, and I'm the only one in the house. I'm not urgently worried, but does anyone know what it could be?
That's it for my little Benny update today

He's so cute. Hammys have such a short lifespan, I don't understand why anyone feels the need to give them up

impulse purchase/take on that (literally) came back to bite them? because they're clueless...? rush in, frighten a baby hammy and then think it forget it.

some people I guess just don't bond with hammys. I do. I', too soft not to :P

I fear you're right A bought animal equals instant love, no work required, but they take work and patience. Some people I guess just aren't up to the challenge. Glad he's settling in well with you and getting frozen baby food! That's a great idea btw, never thought of that

Out of my pets, 6 were technically implulses. Didn't really plan my hamsters but have 3, one of my rabbits was an impulse, one of my birds was brought to me needing a home and one of my cats is a stray I took on... I still just don't get it I've got/had some really aggressive pets and I just couldn't part with them, it gives them character

it's great in this weather - I noticed he'd stop eating once it dried out from the heat and general air exposure, but being frozen makes that process take longer.. it's also really nice and cold so I know the hammys get to cool off

the difference is, you bonded with them early on, impulse bought or not. All 3 of my hammys were impulse, but I knew I would take them on and keep them no matter what. I respect their individual personalities.
Gloria tends to get territorial when she's in heat; she's a no touch hamster every 4 days, but it's just Gloria I love her either way.
Charlie is a total timid boy, but he's my boy and I love him to bits. He's taming slowly and I respect his need for space.
Benny nibbles my fingers, but I know he will get there, he will be fine and he will trust me, because he's just so adventurous and brave considering his start in life.

I will no doubt impulse buy the nest hammy that steals my heart... I'm such a sucker for those fluffy faces.... and I know for a fact I will be unable to resist a LH female... or another LH male... cause they're just the ULTIMATE in fluffiness xD
