I FINALLY got my hamster, yay!!
I finally got my hamster, after waiting over a year to find the right time and all the researching i've done. (yes, i was a bit keen)
He's a lovely little boy called Schmendrick, there is reason behind the weird name i promise, and he seems to be settling in well.
And now i have a quick colour question!
I think he is a mink but i am not sure, he could be just grey, and i need your expert opinions. I don't have a photo at the moment, which i know doesn't help, im sorry! But he does have red eyes, not stand out red though, i thought they were dark at first. And he does have the little skin colour rings around his eyes, i think i remember someone saying on here that that was a characteristic of some colour but i can't remember which!
Sorry if this description is terrible but any guessing would be much appreciated!
Thank you!

Aww congratulations . Such a long wait but finally arrived eh? Where did you get Schmendrick from and what does his name mean?
Would be great to see a picture when your able as it may help to identify his colour for you. I am not good with colour but someone will be along who is I am sure.
Glad that he's settling in okay - sooo exicting

Re: I FINALLY got my hamster, yay!!
Thanks! I got the little ball of fluffy joy up in aberdeen at an Acorn Pets Centre. He seems (well, from what my untrained eye can tell) to be in really good condition. He also seems quite tame, he wasn't scuttling away when i got close to the cage or chatted to him. And he already takes food from my hand and lets me stroke him. He's still a bit jumpy about being picked up, and flinches alot when he's on your lap. But he's only wee (well not THAT wee, he's 9 weeks.) so i'll guess he'll get better with time.
Well! The reason between the name Schmendrick is from when my flatmate made a group of us watch a movie from her childhood, the last unicorn. Do you know it?? It was actually quite good in its own horribly cheesy way and had its own dodgy soundtrack. Its quite a really funny film because it is so terrible. but anyway! There was a main character in it who was Schmendrick the magician and her one condition of letting me have a hamster in our flat next year was that i would have to call it Schmendrick. All sounds a bit weird i know!
Im not sure how to get the pictures up here...i see the img button but it won't let me copy and paste the picture....emmmmmm?!?!

Re: I FINALLY got my hamster, yay!!
If you click on reply you will see a little box below where you type. Click on 'upload attatchment'.
Then click on 'browse' and select the photo that you wish to take from your computer onto the forum.
Then click 'add the file'.
You still won't see the picture in the reply box so if you go back down to where you clicked 'upload attatchment' you will see something like: 'Insert Image.0' click this and it will put the photo up in this kind of format:

but when you click submit on the reply form you will see your picture in all it's glory! Don't forget that it can't be over 600 pixels x 600 pixels.
I hope this helps!

Oh Schmendrick is definitely a little mink boy, with his little eye rings and dark red eyes. What a darling he looks!
After all that time waiting I am really pleased you have him at last
I love minks so much - I could just steal him from you, but as youve waited so patiently I wont!

Re: I FINALLY got my hamster, yay!!
Thanks so much for that!
I thought he could be a mink but it was only a hunch, im so happy that i know now!
He nipped my pinky tonight though, im hoping he was just testing to see what it was as it didnt really hurt.
Or maybe it was his way of saying 'more brocolli'
