She looks like a cream roan to me!

Satin hamsters look very shiney and are normally quite obvious, here is one of my baby satins at 3 weeks old: compared to a normal baby of the same age:

I don't think your hamster looks satin, but it is harder to tell on very white hamsters in photos.

Well done for deciding not to breed from her. We have 3 Anophthalmic Whites caused by a pet shop accident and they are very cute but have medical issues.

Her fur would be extra shiny like the pics Geniverger, and from your pic, i would say she is not satin. I would say though that she is gorgeous And she looks like a cream roan to me A very pretty lady indeed.

As for the breeding, sorry, I dont want you to think I was being rude, its just there are lots of considerations - somethings that are a lot easier to think about before having to find an extra 15 cages or so!

I know the issue of breeding her is settled but I'm not 100% sure she is a Cream Roan from that piccy - does she have the mottled ears (see BVH's picture)? They aren't always as obvious as that but they are usually mottled.

What do you think she is then, if not a roan?

Ooops, I meant to say if not patterned (I though all patterned animals have mottled ears - but I could be wrong!).

From my limited experience, the amount of mottling can vary a great deal, and is not necessarily present in all patterned hamsters.

If you find mottled ears on a hamster that does not present as patterned, it can indicate a pattern is there ie a very poor roan with hardly any roaning, or in an example I saw at the show on Saturday, a dark eared white hamster, that was actually a white patterned hamster, due to mottling on the ears.
