new cage issue?
I have a fancy bear syrian hammie, I switched to a much bigger tank since she grew so big. But then when I put her in the new cage, I see her shaking alot. Whenever I got home, I see her standing on the wheel, shaking still rather than sleeping (in old tank). And today when I tried to pet her, she would startle and jump. U guys know whats going on?

Re: new cage issue?
When you set up her new cage did you put some of her old bedding from the old cage in with the new? Also try to keep her "furniture" in a similar arrangement to the way she's used to try to reduce the stress. Also, did you have to put the new tank in a different place from her old one?

Re: new cage issue?
It's possible. Everything is different to her and since hammies identify their territory by smell she has no idea what's "out there". As far as she's concerned, she's in a whole new place and it could be somebody else's! She's just being extra cautious until she figures out this new place. If you still have some of her old bedding it might help to sprinkle some of it in the new cage so she feels more at home

Re: new cage issue?
You're welcome ![](https://www.hamstercentral.com/community/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif) You did do something nice for her, but if she's still young then maybe a little more uncertain about changes. Hope she settles soon!

Re: new cage issue?
ohh.. she doesnt have a house. The one I found at store are either too big or too small. Should I make one for her?? cuz in the old tank, she grew so big that she didnt fit inside the house so she just slept out side on the bedding.

Re: new cage issue?
She might appreciate having something to hide in until she's comfortable. Doesn't have to be fancy, just a small box with a hole cut in the side will do until you find something you like!

Re: new cage issue?
Some things that I've found over time that are the right size are cube-shaped ceramic tissue box covers, clay pots (I actually found one with a drainage hole big enough for a hammy!) and there's a woven grass dome hut made by Living World that's a good size! I think I found it in the bird section. But cardboard is perfectly fine and if you're crafty you can make something really unique! But it will do double duty as a chew toy so be prepared for your artwork to be eaten
