Default Syrian Help

I am due to get my new Syrian tomorrow. I have got a Ikea Billy cage, i hoped it would be ready tomorrow, i need to wait for the silicone to dry. It will be fine by the evening but i am due to get my hamster in the morning. i have a mini duna i could put the syrian in for a little while, i don't want to cause it stress and harm.
do you think it will be to much to move it from its home to the duna and then the ikea billy all in one day? i would just sooner wait and get him/her at a later date.

Thank you.

Congrats on your soon to be, new furry friend!

Daniellabella, I can't help you with the mini-Duna question because I live in the US & I'm not sure what the size is off the top of my head. I'm sure it would be fine as a temporary short term.

I did want to ask you about your IKEA Billy cage. Is it like the one pictured below or is it a whole Billy bookcase?

If it is like the one pictured here, please think about adding on space for your new little friend. The RSPCA recommended space for a Syrian is 75cm x 40cm = 3,000 sq cm. The Billy above is only 80cm x 20cm = 1,600 sq cm. I keep my Chinese hamster in the above Billy. She would be in a much larger cage, but I am still trying to tame her and she is very nervous about open space & prefers a smaller cage. I would not keep my Syrian, Darwin, in it unless it was connected to something larger. Just something to think about.

Can't wait to see pics of your new furry friend!!

silicone normally takes 24hours to dry. i would suggest try and keep your new syrian away from the silicone until it dries.

i would suggest not to put a syrian with a mini duna as syrians become terriotorrial,
just check your silicone on the cage before you want to go and get your new syrian. if its not dry put off for a day or two.

hope this helps

Personally I don't see that it would do any harm x

I have heard that a mini-duna is ok to have for a baby syrian, but not an old one, because the cage is too small.
But if it is for only a day I think your hammy will be ok.

Oohh...sounds fantastic!! I can't wait to see pictures of it! I love DIY, so I might just have to borrow some ideas & "modify" my existing Billy cage once Pippa is tame!
