Sand baths
Do Syrian hamsters like/ need a sand a bath? If so, how often, and do I leave it in the cage with him?

Re: Sand baths
Hi.
They don't actually need one, but my Syrian Jeffro loves his. So much so he does little cute chrips when having a good roll. He has his in his cage all the time. (He has two. One in a litter tray he uses as a toilet and the other he uses for a good roll and scratch). My two robo's and chinese also have sandbaths and love them too.
If you decide on one make sure you buy the sand and not dust.

Re: Sand baths
Syrians don't need one but mine loves hers. After she's been handled she usually goes to her sand pit to sent mark, have a roll about and has a wash. Think she does it to get rid of the smell of smelly humans ![](https://www.hamstercentral.com/community/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif) why ever she does it it's cute to watch. I've got a separate compartment she can use when ever she wants.

Re: Sand baths
My syrian loves her sand bath. Spends more time in it than my Chinese dwarves or Robos. I almost didn't put one in her cage because I thought they were just for dwarves. I'm glad I did.

Re: Sand baths
Both my Syrians use theirs as a litter tray!! But they do have a good dig around in it too! Just means I have to change it more often... I leave them in with them. It's just a shallow lunchbox filled with chinchilla sand. The cheapest that I've found the sand that I use at is from this website pet-supermarket.co.uk £2.75 free p&p for 1.5L
Hope this helps!

Re: Sand baths
I'm off to Jollyes this afternoon. Never been there before and suspect it might be a small shop but it's always nice to see what's around.

Re: Sand baths
Soapy. I only disvovered it last month and i much prefer it too pah. Not as much stuff but what they do have its far more appealing. They sell things like the open litter trays or the watee bottle holders that come with the mini duna that i wanted for my zoozones. Plus The range is next door which also has a great pet section ![](https://www.hamstercentral.com/community/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif) .
Did you like it?

Re: Sand baths
I was very disappointed icklemunch. I got some treats but nothing else. We called in at Wyevale on the way home, they have a good pet section - but couldn't take cards today (probably a good thing).
