I'm so sorry, Teresa

As the others have said, heartbreaking though it is, let him go knowing you have given him an incredible long life full of love. I'm thinking of you.

oh no
i agree that the best thing to do is tell him it's ok to go. sometimes they hang on for their mamma's sake.

it sounds very similar to when Holly Fluffness went. it only took her a few hours. i told her it was ok to go then left her alone in her nest and she went.

i hate this part of pet ownership. loosing your best friends over and over again is so hard.

Thanks everyone, your messages really helped.
He's gone. We had him pts as he was no better today, and did just seem to be hanging on by a thread, so it was cruel to keep him with us for what could only have been a few hours.
He had kisses and cuddles goodbye from us both, and at the very last kiss, he put his little front paw up to my lip, as though to say "It's okay" and then I passed him to the vet, before bursting into floods of tears

And yes, I know I'm anthropomorphising, but I simply don't care, I'm sure that gesture was his way of saying goodbye.

Thanks again
Teresa x

He did indeed say goodbye Spud's mum and that little paw was his first step on the path. I am so sorry he is gone but you gave him the last great gift.
Rest in Peace Little Peanut

Oh no, poor little Peanut. He was a very special hamster and had a great life with you. I'm sure he knew just how much you loved him. R.I.P little one.
