taming

Hi I have had Gizmo for awile now. I have not really tried to tame but I need too. He does come to my hand. He will get in the ball for me. He takes treats out of my hand. He took a treat out of my hubby hand and took his treat to his bed than went back to my hubby's hand and bit him hard enough to break skin. Now I guess I'm nerves about it.

I wonder if he bit because the hand still smelled like treat?

Hey Bouncer, I agree with the above post about the hand smelling like the treat, also how was his hand positioned? I ask because the don't like it above them, it's better to lay the hand flat on the cage floor. My new hamster tried to bite me twice yesterday (didn't get me, I took it that it was more of a threat) a few seconds later he was sat in my hand; we have to remember that these animals are based on instinct, so you have to keep trying and keep proving you are safe. He his hand from above but it was flat on the ground. Yesterday he took a treat from me and while he was chewing on it. I was stroking his back. He let me do that for a little bit I think he was enjoying it too he look like he was closing his eyes
