Hello, I got a baby syrian hamster recently after my very old and very decrepit dwarf hamster Billy died. I got Billy when he was 7 months and already nonplussed about being handled and lifted out of the cage. My new hamster Babu seems to like me - he has a little creepy thing of watching me sleep sometimes, and is fine once he is out of the cage. He will happily walk into the ball I use to get him out as soon as it's put in the cage, and will crawl over me and let me pick him up and pull him back when he wanders too far once he's out of the cage.
He is generally terrified of movement though and dramatically flinches at regular human movement a lot/if you put your hand in the cage to change the food etc, I'm sure he will get more used to humans over time but I wonder if there is anything I can do to make him more comfortable around normal human activity. He also doesn't seem to like the sound of my boyfriend breathing! He was doing the full on ears perked up listening, absolutely stiff thing for about ten minutes when he was over one night.
I moved him out of Billy's old cage and into a bigger one with bars for climbing but I need to buy a new wheel soon - he is still wee enough that he is fine in the silent spinner but I know he needs a bigger one soon. I have a flying saucer which he likes but he much prefers the proper wheel and running all night so I'm wondering if this is best?

I wasn't sure about the wooden ones as he pees on the wheel and I'd be no good at DIYing anything.
