Default Introducing Zika's Hamsters

I'd like to introduce our four adult (or, two who are almost adult) hamsters. They all have such unique personalities and behaviors, and my husband and I love and dote on them every day

First is our Mono:

Mono is a delight for everyone because he is extremely extroverted and loves human attention. His ample, soft fur amazes almost everyone who holds him. He received his name "Mono", because he likes to crawl across the bars of his roof like monkey bars. He's starting to slow down with age, and still retains his sweet, docile temperament.

Mono is long haired and homozygous silver grey.

The second hamster who came into our house is Beefalo:

Beefalo is incredibly curious and loves chewing on things... pretty much anything. She also gives the best cuddles and is known to fall asleep in our arms. We're not really sure how Beefalo got her name, but when my husband and I opened up naming to the rest of our house, that one stuck!

Beefalo is also long haired, banded, and a double umbrous sable (eeUU).

Next, Seymour was born from Mono and Beefalo:

Seymour is a deceptively shy hamster--he does not like to be picked up, but he loves riding around on shoulders. His name was a sudden stroke of inspiration, as he seems like the type to sit down in a comfy chair and read a long book. "Seymour" seemed to fit that type of personality! His parents are Mono and Beefalo.

Seymour is also long haired (do you see a pattern? ) and heterozygous silver grey.

Finally, we chose Ilmarė from a litter who were born at Pearl Hamletry:

Ilmarė is our youngest hamster, and we're learning that she is our most avid runner. The only reason she gets fussy is if her wheel is not working! She came to us from a breeder who's been selecting for size, type, and temperament for years, and it shows. Her parents are Serafina, meaning "Angel" or "Burning One", and Gandalf. Thus we chose the name Ilmarė, after a character from Tolkien's The Silmarillion who is a Maia like Gandalf and whose name means "Starlight".

Ilmarė is long haired and homozygous silver sable.

As a bonus and so we don't leave her out, Aurora is a sibling from the same litter as Seymour:

We are trying to find Aurora a home, and until then we've been loving her high-energy and antics. She is most likely to be awake during the day and if we come anywhere near her cage, she will be bouncing around the door and begging us to hold her. She loves exploring and climbing!

Aurora is long haired, banded, and heterozygous silver grey.

And those are all of the hamsters who are currently with us! We've loved getting to know each of them

Oh my goodness, they are all so adorable! I love long haired hamsters, and greys, but my SO is not fond of them. Aurora is just... ADORABLE! If only you were in Canada.

Thanks! I wish we were closer together, too. I think she'd find a wonderful home with you.

Does your SO prefer a specific phenotype, or is that person generally adverse to hamsters in general?

Oh, he loves hamsters. Adores the ones we have. He just doesn't like long haired hamsters, and I'm not really sure why! It's a bit of a mystery. We're getting a long haired dominant spot baby though in a couple of weeks, so he'll learn to like it, haha.

Hekomi - are you receiving a pup from the Badger x Midnight litter, or another? I hope that once he gets that little fuzzball in his hands he'll fall in love with long haired hamsters Are you receiving a male or female?

Denisekay - Thank you! He looks so similar to light gray coloration that my husband did some genetic investigative work to make sure we didn't have a lightgray-silvergray on our hands. He's also one of the most cuddliest pups from the litter... he gives "neck hugs"

I am getting a pup (maybe two) from the Badger x Midnight litter. I have my eyes on one of the male dom spots, who is LH, and my SO said he really loved the black male runt, so if he falls in love with him we might see about taking him too, but he looks like a SH.

I hope so too! My first two hamsters were long haired and I loved them. xx

Esmy - Yes, we breed. We're a fledgling hamstery, though we're trying to do the best we can West and middle. We're in Harrisonburg, if you're familiar with that city.

Hekomi - I saw the photographs of those pups. They are cute little guys! Glad you're able to give him/them a home

Ooooh, that's amazing. ESMY YOU COULD GET BREEDER HAMMIES. I want to start my own hamstery when we have a bigger house.

And yes, they're ADORABLE! I can't wait for him/them to come home to us. I really hope it's them!
