RE: the other reply about reputable breeders, I don't even know where to begin looking in Glasgow.
I don't know of any specific breeders in glasgow area. if you are able to travel then there is our member fionasteel who has gorgeous babes. You could contact her via pm and have a chat with her. Alternatively have a look at the northen hamster club website for breeder information.

Just so you know Danny, asking if someone is a hammie expert in P@H might not help much anyway. I had quite a few discussions with the rodent "expert" in one branch of P@H where she consistently got information wrong. Unfortunately in many pet shops, even the "expert" staff aren't half as knowledgeable as they think they are.
Racinghamsters tips sound like good ideas to me though, they should definetly help
