Never give your food to your hamster - you won't get it back

In Germany we are told that bread / toast and so on is absolutely unhealthy for hamsters. Did you see anything? I'm just curious, mine get very small pieces sometimes and I had no problem.
But my hamsters must not steal my breakfast
