Hamsters are fine with normal room temperatures in houses.

Keep them away from open windows and draughts, and out of direct sunlight but i wouldn't bother with a thermo personally.

This time of year they won't be cold anyway but take care in the winter not to let them get too cold as they can go into hibernation.

As long as the temp doesn't go below something like 14°C and the temp doesn't change drastically really quickly there won't be any issues.

Our flat is about 19°C in the winter (sometimes dropping to 16°C) and up to 29°C in the summer (this summer anyway) but generally speaking the temp doesn't change (up or down) more then 3-4°C during a 24 hour period. It's the sudden and drastic temp changes that are more of an issue.

Like alisond said - no draughts or direct sunlight either

As a general rule of thumb, I try to keep my room around 75F. I'm not sure about thermometers, but I think some hamster owners use the reptile ones? You don't want it to get too hot as heat stroke is a risk for hamsters, so if you use an AC to keep temperature steady, make sure you check on it frequently and make sure you fix it in a timely manner. I was told that cold rocks and ceramic are good to offer in such situations. I've been keeping some in my freezer just in case. Like everyone else said, no direct sunlight. Not close to a window. And don't use fans to cool down (drafts). I don't know where you are, so I don't know if heat is as much a concern to you as it is to me. In the winter, they can go into torpor/shock. I've never really had to worry about this as it doesn't get that cold here. But I find that the best rule of thumb is that if it's too hot or too cold for you, it's definitely too hot or too cold for your pets. Just never underestimate how dangerous extreme temperatures can be. If you're ever uncomfortable with the temp, do something fast because your hamster definitely is/will be.
