Hay is not recommended for hamsters due to their propensity to pouch. It is very often sharp-ended and therefore can potentially damage their cheek pouches. You can sort the dried grass leafy parts out and offer these - your hamster may eat them. Does your little one eat the alfalfa pellets which come in the hamster dry mix? If so she may eat hay. Most don't, and you will have a lot of waste so unless you also have a Guinea Pig for example I wouldn't bother. I have recently been using some lovely new meadow grass from my dad's farm as a bedding/nesting material for dwarf hamsters and they seem to like it - the Syrians are not keen, they seem to prefer plain toilet tissue.
