Question Separating females= crazyness

So I separated my two female hammy's like I said I would. They are going nuts now! They were so calm before I separated them, sleeping together, eating together, wheeling together. Now... they just try to escape, they sit and stare at each others cage. What is the deal? I feel bad now.

It's new to them so they are probably just wondering why they are now in different cages without each others scents etc. I'd see how it goes, they should settle down soon.

I'd move the cages well apart and allow them the chance to settle down on their own now. Babies always go a bit skitty when they go it alone but that is the way of the world for hamsters. They all have to go through it. Don't feel bad and try and not give them human emotions as it makes you feel worse.

They are not babies though. They were bought by a lady from a pet store and she had been keeping then together all their lives. I got them from her.

How long is "all their lives"?

They would have fought eventually unless you have completely unique Syrian Hamsters.

Even when syrians don't fight the situation is completely unnatural. Living together is stressful and stress lowers the immune system. Separating them was for the best. It is unusual for them right now but they will settle down.
