I see, well it's good your hamster seems used to you. Just watch its body language... If the hamster runs from your when you go to pick it up then it probably doesn’t want to be handled. Try your best not to startle it while it cleaning or eating, you might first want to try softly calling and rustling the bedding a bit to gets its attention, and wait for the hamster to come to you.

My first hamster I had was a wonderful hamster, she never once bit me, expect for this one time, I wanted to handle her but she was asleep in her house and I made the mistake of touching her, she turned around and bit me good and hard, but it was my fault and I knew it was. The best you can do it learn from your experience!

Hamsters are small and delicate creatures! I can’t blame them for being jumpy like that, after all pretty much anything could be considered a predator to them.

Katie92, PLEASE don't post your topics as if there is a terrible emergency unless there is one.

You have no idea what it's like to see such wording as yours of 'PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP!' only to see that you only made your hamster mad and got YOURSELF bit! It can be a bit unnerving to those that think they can save a life if acted quickly enough with an answer only to find no true emergency.

Yes you read right, you got yourself bit. How would you like some big galoot poking your bum unexpectedly? You most likely startled the poor thing!

Now, I've seen your posts on PWS and you should know better as you seem more sensible there than this last post. Although you do possess some impatience when it comes to getting results .

Why don't you place a separate dish especially for treats in the cage? This way, you can give the hamster treats when he is busy someplace else. Only try to hand feed him treats when HE wants to take them from you. That way you won't be getting bit again. Unless you smell like food! LOL

Default sorry

Katie has changed her post title now. I really don't think she meant any harm - just the shock of her beloved LJ "turning" on her It will not happen again I am sure

Think we all know better now that to startle our little ones - lucky not to draw blood on this occassion

LJ must love you very much Katie - giving you more of a warning shot than an actual attack

He is saying leave me be mum - I know it is Easter holidays and you are bored and want to play with me but I am busy - can't you see

Emergencies are relative - I've seen plenty of "emergency" appointments at the vets that were nothing of the sort - but the owners were incredibly worried, to them it was an emergency. To us it could have waited until after lunch!

Although titles of posts are better if they are indicative of the topic - "Please help" doesn't give any indication of what it is about. It's changed now though so no problem

Glad that your hamster seems settled down generally - I really wouldn't be worried by one-off bites, especially if you may have provoked them.
