Default How big is your Syrian?

How big is your Syrian and how old is he/she?

My Biscuits has grown a lot since the pictures taken in my signature, then he was about 4 - 4 1/2 inches long. Now he's about 6 - 6 1/2 inches long. I don't know exactly, he won't stay still long enough! I remember when I first got him, I could put him in my hands and close them all the way around him. Not now! Do all young Syrains grow this fast? It's as if he's in "puberty". I got him February 17, so I figure that he's about a little over 2 - 2 1/2 months old? (Aren't they about a month old when they are put into pet stores?)

They're usually 2 months old when they are able to be sold at pet stores. I do know that some pet stores sell them a little younger though.

My Gerald is pretty big!! I'd say about 7 inches long! And he's round too!! I haven't weighed him yet so I'm not sure of that, but he's probably the biggest hamster I have ever seen,

Since he's adopted I'm not sure of his exact age... The owners said he was either 1 or 2 years... I'm going to assume closer to two years though.

Default Hamster size, shape and weight

When we do our weekly enclosure clean-outs we should take the time to note any changes in our little one's size, shape and weight in a notebook. This is good for indicating if there is maybe a health issue going un-noticed - such as sudden weight loss, and can be useful information for your vet.

That’s true, I do have a scale that I bought for weighing paintings that I ship out if need be and it can weigh oz and grams and I thought about using it for the hamsters but just haven’t gotten around to it

Default Weighing

Just wait until you try to weigh a Roborovski Dwarf hamster

I recommend a container of known weight be used - don't just put your hamster on the scales - most will be off in a shot

I used to weigh mine in a glass bowl on my posh digital kitchen scales - until they broke

My old syrian Mitzi was usually around 170g.

Hermy's around 200g and not looking fat, not sure on length and around 4 months old.

I've not weighed Truffle yet, but she definately looks and feels bigger! She's somewhere around 6 months but from a rescue so I can't be sure
