Question Bay Leaf

I have read online that bay leaves can be toxic to hamsters, but would it be safe to tape a bay leaf inside all of my different food and forage jars to prevent weevils? It won’t be consumed by the hamster, but i’m worried if he’d be sensitive to the smell or something like that?

Context: my last hamster had contaminated food and I’m paranoid. I’ve already frozen all the food for 1 week, but I’d like to do this for extra peace of mind if it’s safe. thank you

I wouldn't. What is a small scent to you is huge to a hamster's sensitive nose. You wouldn't like all your food smelling strongly of bay and it might put him off eating it too.
