Alternative for digging tower
Alright so Jupiter has proven herself to be an avid digger. The sand bath I set up for her is her favourite digging spot, but the problem with that is that there is now more sand outside the bath than in the bath. I know there's such a thing as a digging tower but the ones I've seen are too small for Syrians. I'm afraid that if I put a deeper bowl into her cage, she might struggle to get out. I want to cater to her needs and give her an area in her cage where she can dig around, without getting sand all over the place. Do you guys know anything that would be suited as a digging space?

Re: Alternative for digging tower
I just layer deep bedding in a suitably sized storage bin and provide a ramp.

Re: Alternative for digging tower
You could diy a fence around whichever container you keep the sand in, and provide a little ramp for her to get in and out.

That looks great! I'll see if I can manage to make such a thing for her

Re: Alternative for digging tower
If you make or find something nice & deep for the sand just use a bendy bridge for climbing in & out easily. I wouldn't worry about sand everywhere it's pretty much inevitable!

....and so is her bathroom! This looks much smarter than the plastic one I bought my hammy. Since I'm upgrading the cage, perhaps the bathroom needs an upgrade too.
Agree it's inevitable that there will be some spread of sand. Theo used to roll around in her sand bath on her back, then come out and shake herself out, sand and all.
Voessy - would you mind giving approximate dimensions and let us know what you used for the very attractive front? I am all admiration!

Oh, a little misunderstanding there!
I should have written 'something like this', it is a picture I found while looking for inspiration for my own hamster Mocha. I did build him something like it, only bigger. It is super simple to do. I'll post another picture of the one I built myself.

Re: Alternative for digging tower
In the meantime you can put some cardboard around the sand pit or put it inside a cardboard box and cut entrance holes out.
